Wheelchair or EVC, advice please

I had a knee-injury at work 7/11 and workmans comp is being a pain, finally had surgery scheduled for 8/29 but 5 days ago CMI called to say my surgery was postponed as "my injury could not have happened the way it did", duh, I know it's a stalling tactic etc.

I work sitting in a "mart-cart" at work and have been since day 1 of injury (WC dr gave me restrictions out of the wazoo, but wouldn't let me stay as company would have had to pay me for time off), I would be used to an ECV with no doubt, and I would have needed it post-op anyways, now I need it to not put any more strain on knee pre-op, this is a hassle LOL We already cancelled our original stay at WDW, this was a spur-of-the-moment decision as a friend of ours has timeshare and a unit at OKW was available, we're going no matter what!

Will it be better or will it make a difference to which one I choose? I understand the differences in mobility and my DH not having to push me but I think I'm more scared of someone stealing the wheelchair while on "some" of the rides I actually can do without hitting my knee, there is also a major price difference and the ability to get onto buses and monorail at WDW.

Any experienced EVC/wheelchair users, please give me some advice

I have used both and will NEVER use a WDW wheelchair ever again. I had injured my knee just before our trip to WDW. The wheel chairs were in awful shape. Some the seat was so wearn that you were sitting on bars. Some had wonky wheels that made pushing really hard up all those hills at WDW.
NO the lay of the land is NOT flat!! And most all of the WDW wheel chairs DO NOT have the leg lifts, so your leg is left dangling.

I rented an offsite ECV for our next trip. [I fell off an unmarked new curb and tore tendons in my foot.] What a good Difference the EVC made!! It protects your injured leg. They have keys so you can lock the EVC. And Most of All I didn't hurt as much, which put me in a better mood, and made the trip more fun!!

There is some information in the disABILITIES FAQs thread about boarding the bus.
My suggestion is to practice going forward and backward so that you are comfortable getting the ECV into a particular place. Getting onto the bus is a bit like parallel parking on the left side of the street. You can drive straight into the 'parking' spot, so it's easier than parallel parking, but you do have to be able to get your ECV into the general correct area. That will b e much easier if you have done a little practice parking beforehand.
