Wheelchair (not scooter) available ??

Having some pain in my knee last 2 weeks. Of course we leave sat. Do have dr Thursday so hoping for cortisone shot at least to help. Anyway if I find myself in a lot of pain walking around the parks is there someplace to get or rent a wheelchair? I do not want a scooter

Yes.

Wheelchairs are for rent at all of the WDW parks.
Same areas that rent the "scooters."

If your having pain in the first day then rent a wheelchair from Disney. After that call one of the local companies and rent one for your stay, it will be a lot cheaper. I hope you enjoy your trip.

I'm not sure if it's a cost or preference thing, but there's a reason so many end up in ecv's. I sprained my knee on a Disney trip and did a wheelchair and it was a nightmare. The chairs are heavy and hard to push and it is hillier than you would think, especially Epcot. I know they're available but just wanted to suggest keeping an open mind if you find it too much . Maybe renting from a local company would be better, maybe they have the lighter weight chairs

I just had surgery on my right knee on July 9th and have a scooter on reserve. No way would I expect my hubby to push me around in this heat.

The offsite rental places deliver to the resort - even offsite resorts. My husband had some problems (now corrected) and he found out just two days before we left on a Disney World trip. There was no way he was going to walk around for the first few days. I called an offsite rental place, got a wheelchair (not scooter) for him and it was there at our offsite place when we arrived and we left it there when we left. Cost for the time was about $35 so well worth it to have 24/7.

And as far as someone needing to push it? I'm 5' nothing, weight about 110, and didn't have a problem pushing him around. You won't be totally immobile as you can still walk but painfully. You'll be fine with a standard wheelchair but you might just want to get one for the entire time.

Also it was my hubby's idea for wheelchair. I can walk just not for a long period of time as the parks entail. Also will not need any handicap treatment as far as rides or bus go so would like to have something we can just fold up for busses

I went on the disability board and found some references that rent wheelchairs from outside vendors. As I am able to walk short distances would it be ok to "park" the wheelchair with the strollers to go on rides and shows? Good idea or no?

When I broke my foot, I tried a manual wheelchair for one day. There were so many hills and ramps (and yes, it was EPCOT!) that my whole group and I were worn out from pushing me around. I called the rental company and switched to an ECV that night. I had honestly not noticed how many hills and *steep* ramps there were until I had to worry about wheeling up them. (Of course, I was unable to walk more than a few steps - if I had been able to walk most of the time and just needed an occasional few minutes of relief it might have been different.)

I would keep contact information for a rental company handy, in case you find yourself needing more help than a park wheelchair can give you. (e.g. are you OK for the distamces you'll need to walk to get in and out of the parks in the first place? To/From parking or buses? Around your resort?)

Yes, people do this all the time. If you have trouble figuring out where to leave your wheelchair, a CM can help you.

Most of the lines are wheelchair-accessible, so if you need a place to sit while you're waiting it's probably better to bring it. You can always just push it when you don't need/want to sit.

An example of when it's easier for *me* to park and walk is at the haunted mansion, where it's too dark between the entrance and the boarding area for me to see well enough to propel. When I'm walking, I can at least try to feel my way.

I have 3 local wheelchair rental places written down now & hope I do not have to use them . I should know on our first day whether or not I will be able to walk all day with the shot. you can call and get a chair any time from the offsite places.
I have gotten the shots in my hip and have been able to go back to work in construction with little issues. BUT and I repeat BUT!!! if you feel that you need to use a chair PLEASE!!!! rent an ecv!!!! As others have pointed out the ones pushing you around will get worn out. A few trips back DW had an knee procedure and we thought like you get a wheelchait BIG MISTAKE At MK I pushed my DW from gate to castle and by the time we got there my shirt was soaking wet with sweat. Not a nice thing to have eating at Cinerella's. You still can try out the knee and then decide but really think about an ecv

I recommend Scooterbug. Great customer service and their prices are slightly lower than some of the more popular places like Apple or Buena Vista. They deliver directly to your resort and pick up. You don't have to be present at delivery or pick up. Bell Services takes care of that. Good luck!

Be sure to rent from a vendor that Disney deals with. If you don't the hotel will accept the delivery. Which means you have to be there to accept delivery.

That's fine. With my husband, he needed that wheelchair all the time at the beginning of the trip before the meds took hold of his problem so by the end of the trip, he was able to walk and wanted and needed to walk so he just used the wheelchair when he needed it. Also, I had to use a wheelchair on another trip (since corrected problem) and there was no way I could walk without support. So, I used the wheelchair as a walker sometimes (especially going to the bathroom).
