Wheelchair/crutches question

Hi all

I have a quick question that I hope you can help me out with. DS has been on crutches for several weeks now, and will continue to be on them for a while. During our visit next week to Disneyland, he will have to use a wheelchair. If we rent at the parks, will they store his crutches for us during the day?

His Dr has written a prescription for a rental, so we could rent one here before we leave if need be, but I'd like to avoid the hassle of trying to fit it in or rental car, etc if possible. It would alleviate the crutches problem though, since we could leave them at the hotel.

If you have any insight into this, or can point me in the direction of a phone number to call for an answer I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks so much for any help you can offer!
Lauren

Hi.. hope your ds recovers quickly!

This is jmho.. but I would go ahead and rent the w/c at home. Taking it with you is really not much of a problem if it is a standard size w/c. If your son is young you can even rent a narrow lightweight chair which increases the ease of transport.
Having your own w/c with you will decrease all the time spent waiting to rent w/c's and return them. It also guarantees that your ds will have a w/c whenever he needs it. You can ask the medical supply company to provide you with a chair that has a crutch carrier attachment.. it is just a simple hook type device that attaches to the chair. If you do rent the w/c at home make sure to put a name on a large piece of masking tape and attach it to the chair. You can also put a ribbon on the chair (lime green~of course;) ) so that it will be easy to recognize.
JMHO....
HAVE A GREAT VACATION!

I agree with Joan.
If you are flying, the walk from the airport gates to baggage claim and then to the car rental area is pretty far. I don't know how far the parking at DL is from the wheelchair rental areas, but at WDW, it is usually quite a hike. Also, they probably only have adult wheelchairs for rent (if they are the same as WDW).
You may also want to re-think taking the crutches with you to the parks. For some rides, he will need to get out of the wheelchair. Having crutches with him will help him to get from the wheelchair to the ride car. In addition, he should probably be getting up and walking around a few times during the day to keep from getting stiff. If you want to bring them to the park and drop them somewhere, I am quite certain you could leave them at First Aid. At WDW I know they do store medical equipment for people who would be using it later in the day, so I think DL would do the same.

Thank you for your replies, they are appreciated! I think we'll stick to renting from DL simply due to space constraints in our rental car, but it's good to know that first aid will likely store his crutches for him. I had/have several concerns about keeping the crutches with us, afraid they might get taken while we're on an attraction. Same with a chair rented from outside the park. He is able to bear weight on the injury for short times, so I think he'll be fine to get out of the chair for bits to stretch and move about without the crutches along.

Thanks again, you've been very helpful!
