I just read that the two bedrooms at HHI are all accessed from stairs except at the Live Oak Lodge--did I read that right? We have never been to HHI. My mother uses a walker and cannot do steps or walk long distances. Can someone tell me the building number (so I can look it up on the map) and any other useful info.--where it is in relation to the beach? main looby? any other important buildings? pools? Thanks, Trish :confused3

The island of Hilton Head is a flood zone, so the buildings at Disney's HH resort are built up off the ground. Thus the 1st floor is actually 1/2 floor above the ground as shown in the photo of a typical building (Back (entrance) side shown - Bldg. #20) None of these buildings has any elevators, so even the bottom floor would be a short flight of stairs to get to.

The lodge building on the other hand does have an elevator, so all rooms have elevator access. The 'ground' floor is actually a parking garage, and all rooms and the lobby are located 1-floor higher. The photo shows the main part of the lodge where Big Murggie's den and the check-in area are located. Most of the lodge rooms are off to the left of the photo. Lodge is Bldg's 11 & 12)

The resort also has a number of villas located along a short boardwalk area. I'm pretty sure none of these have any elevators but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. See photo. These are Bldg's 14 & 15.

Here's a map I scanned from one of our trips there. The CM put Mickey ears where the pool is located. We were in Bldg 21. The lodge is a little bit of a ways from everything else.

The ocean (and Beach House) is 1.3 mile (If I recall correctly) and can be accessed by a walk/bike path, or you can take Disney's free shuttle which travels between the resort and the Beach House.

Hope this helps

There is no elevator in bldg. 14 or 15. We have stayed in them. I believe that the only elevator is in the lodge. There may be a 2 BD or a 1BD with a studio lock-off in the lodge, but I don't know for sure. Best to call HH directly and ask. As far as walking long distances, You could probably rent a wheelchair from a local Medical supply. My Dad needs some special medical equipment and calls ahead (to the medical supply) and his stuff is delivered to the resort and then the CM's haul it to his room for him. They really do try hard to accomodate those who have physical difficulties.

There are no dedicated 2BR's in buildings 11 or 12- all are lock-offs. If you need a HCA villa, they are all all in that area (11/12) serviced by the elevator. As noted, there is only one elevator and it is located in building 11 where the front desk is found. Since buildings 11 and 12 are connected, the elevator serves both buildings. The laundry room is in building 12 near the patio outside Big Murgie's Den. There are 16 lock-off 2BRs in 11/12. There are 3 floors - front desk is on the first floor (not at ground level however) in building 11 with villas located on the two floors above. Building 12 has lock-off villas on all 3 floors.

None of the other buildings at the resort are accessible and will all have some stairs to climb even for the "first" floor villas.

The resort is pretty compact and it's not too far to get to any area of the resort. As you can see from the map, the pool/Community Hall area is located towards the opposite end from the Live Oak Lodge (buildings 11/12). The resort does have paved walkways thruout as well as a HCA ramp to get to the upstairs area at Community Hall where the store and snackbar are located.

I am always amazed at the information our DVC members have about the resorts. Thank you to those who posted. The info. was very useful.
I will be calling member services in the morning to request a HA 2 bedroom. If they can't promise us a HA 2 bedroom-we will have to make reservations elsewhere. I really hope this all works out. Thanks again to everyone who posted.

We will (hopefully) be in HH the first week in October. Can't wait.

Just wanted you to know we have taken my 87 year old mom to Hilton Head. We stayed in a regular 2 BR. My mom uses a wheelchair because she can't walk very far. She can manage those 5 steps to the 1st floor landing though with help. But everywhere else we used the wheelchair and she got along well. Also we did the Dolphin tour that picks you up at the Disney dock area. We let the guy know that she would be in a wheelchair but he was very helpful to help lift her down into the boat. This was the highlight of the trip for her. She loved it so I'd encourage you to try it- just let them know ahead of time that she will ned lots of help getting in the boat. Just wanted you to know that she will probably have a great time. I think some people on these boards have said being in the lodge is one of their favorite vacation areas.
