Wheel chair rental question

Can anyone tell me the best route to take in renting a wheelchair. My son has scooter but I cant see him manuvering it in the MK with the crowds or AK.. so at those parks he will be using a wheelchair.

1. If I rent a wheelchair in MK in the morning then go to AK do I rent it seperate times or is it like a day rental and I can just bring the reciept to the other park and Ill get another one.

2. What are decent rental agencies for wheelchairs if we choose just to rent one for the week? Thanks.

You can rent a w/c either in the parks or from an off-site rental company. By renting off-site, your son would have it available to use to/from the parks/resorts and elsewhere. A park rental must be returned before leaving that park. However, if you do a park rental and do leave the park, just keep your receipt to show you paid for a rental already that day. If you return to the same park or hop to another park, you can show the receipt and get another wheelchair if one is available. The catch there is whether or not one is available at the later time.

Does your son use his scooter at school? If so I would say that he should do just fine at MK or AK. School halls are crowded when class changes happen and the kids seem to be experts at not running over their classmates or teachers.

He uses it only for long distances in school... and the hallways is pretty wide.. I can see it being a disaster in the Magic Kingdom at night

We just got back and this was the first time using a wheelchair and a scooter for me. You can rent a wheelchair right inside of the gates at all parks. You can pay for multiple days which brings the price down to $10 a day instead of $12. I rented for 5 days and park hopped a lot there were always wheelchairs available. I only used 4 days and then rented a scooter, they refunded my money for the extra day of wheelchair rentals. When you turn in the wheelchair before leaving ask for a courtesy wheelchair to get to the parking lot. I didn't know about this until the 3rd day. When you get to the park check around the bus parking as sometimes there will be courtesy wheelchairs just sitting there that you can you to get you from the bus parking to the gates at the parks. There are also wheelchairs available for free at your hotel to be used at the hotel. I saw many wheelchairs in the parks that were brought from hotels which I was surprised at as I thought they were for hotel use only. I used a scooter at AK (the second time we went) as DH said it was hard to push the wheelchair because of all the hills and the different surfaces. I also used it at MK.

There is information (and prices) about renting in the parks and also links and phone numbers for off site companies.

If you rent at a park and park hop, you will be able to get another at the next park without paying a second time. Just show your receipt at the second park. They do not usually run out of wheelchairs, but are likely to run out of ECVs. In fact, they often run out of ECVs by 10:30 at any park.

Resorts do often have wheelchairs to lend, but those are really meant more for injuries or sudden reasons to need one. They can't be reserved ahead of time, there is no guarantee that they will have any or that it would be in good shape.

The scooter rental in the park is $70 a day. You get $20 back when you return the key. If you park hop you have to give them $20 again getting it back when you return the key. If you are looking to rent a scooter for multiple days you may be better off renting from an outside source as it is much cheaper and will be sitting at your hotel when you check in.
