We are going to be at WDW and Orlando for two weeks in December. My wife had major back surgery two months ago - 3 fused vertebrae and major instrumentation. She is still in some pain and while she can walk with the aid of a cane, we are renting a WC from Walker Mobility for the length of the trip.

I have no issues pushing it, but she will want to walk some of the time, but 5-10 miles a day and standing in lines will be too much for her. Has anyone had any experience pushing an empty wheel chair around? Are there any issues other than stupid looks from people? Are there any other hints on being in a WC that long? TIA for your advice.

You won't get any strange looks from anyone that matters, your family. If your wife needs a WC she needs it it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, so many people have hidden disabilities and all these theme park doctors who can tell someone is faking can go pound sand. Plus it will be a great place to put stuff you don't want to carry while she is out of it. Go have fun and the AK thats a tricky one to push a WC in but its doable.

My wife has a bad ankle so we rent a wheel chair for her every time she also has some back issues so she pushes the chair all the time when her back starts to hurt. We just got back last Friday and she pushed the chair part of everyday and we never had any problem

I can tell you that she won't be the only one pushing an empty wheelchair.

My only hint is to be careful going down hill. An empty wheelchair rolls pretty well and can get away from you if you are not holding on tight.
