Finally upgraded from Windows to Linux and I love it! Faster, more attractive, more secure, more logical... and there's nothing I can't do on Linux than I can on Windows AND Linux is free

Nothing wrong with Windows '95!

I was using Windows 10. Experimented with Windows 11, which I was very impressed with

Whenever I'm not using Linux I'm on my Mac. Big fan.

I used to use all sorts of Windows machines professionally for work. My favorite was Windows 7, although 11 is now a contender! 8 was the tool of the devil! 10 was OK I guess. Don't even get me started on Vista!

I used to design and build high end custom PCs with liquid cooling, nice CPUs and GPUs, etc. Fun times But when I got down to to it, buck for buck, Macs were worth it in the end. I've only recently discovered Linux and already love it. If I ever need Windows, I can just emulate it.

My only issue running Linux has been finding the things I needed to make things work. It was all out there but did not work out of the box with Linux like it did with Windows. Now that was 10 years ago so things may have changed quite a bit. Of course 90% of my personal computing is done with ChromeOS right now anyway. I keep my Win10 desktop for those rare occasions I need two screens or a lot of power.

My only question is why don't I recall paying anything for Windows? It just came already installed on my computer. If I paid for it, it was just once and couldn't have cost much.

Unless you built the computer yourself you probably never paid specifically for Windows. You paid for the computer which included a Windows license. Windows in general costs $100-$200 depending on how much the retailer is trying to screw you and how much support you want. Way back when I first started building computers there were Win2k discs that were pirated but worked. Can't say I've seen that in the last decade and a half.
