Departure day (August 27)
I am up early, go to the food court and fill my old style PO cup with coffee. I do see another woman with the old style cup and we raise our cups to each other and smile. I take my book and coffee and sit at the very quiet pool. There are only 2 teen age kids swimming and the CM who cleans the pool area. She asks me to switch rows because she hasnt straightened the row I am in yet. I move. She is having an anxiety attack because she is behind in her straightening. She and I talk as she works and she tells me that she gets there at 5am and starts and that she is usually finished by 10am but thet she is behind because the area was so messy this am, that people had left towels all over and garbage all over. I can believe it about the towels because the towel holder was overflowing the night before when we left and peole were just leaving towels where ever. (we took ours back to the room). She keeps straightening the lounge chairs so they are nice and neat. I think what a thankless job this is- by noon they will be all over the place again. I tell the CM that she is an unsung hero of WDW and that I can tell that she does a great job because the pool area is so nice. I mean it too. She smiles and goes back to her straightening.
When I go back to the room, both boys are awake but still in bed, debating whether to go for one more swim or lie around. Staying in bed wins. I fininsh packing, they get up and we go to the food court. Nick feels better and gets a few side orders of things he likes, Dan gets a breakfst sandwich with eggs, and some potatoes and some beignets and juice. We go to the room, call bell services who come promptly and give us a ride to the front in the golf cart. Darcy is there already, so I quick check out and we are off. I enjoy the ride back to the airport chatting with Darcy. I feel like we are old friends now. When he drops us off, he asks if we will be back next year, I say I am not sure and my kids crack up.
Dan gets a smoothie in the airport, we leave on time. The flightis pretty smooth which is a surprise becasue we have never had a smooth flight back from Orlando. As we get close to Pittsburg, the pilot asks that people fasten their seat belts and stay seated because we are coming into some 'choppy' weather as we approach Pittsburg. No kidding!! Nick makes a comment about being on USAir Mountain and throws his hands up like he is on a roller coaster. Dan and I do the same and the three of us laugh. We land safely but the sky is BLACK on one side of the plane. I hope thats not the way to Buffalo. We arent able to get off because the ground crew cant leave the building due to lightening strikes close by. We sit there for about an hour while it pours. Nick wants to know what would happen if the plane blew over, I tell him I dont think that could happen, but I am wondering the same thing. We finally get off and have to find our gate for the connection. Dan is starving and Nick is thirsty. I ask another gate of USAir if we have time to grab some food, she tells me no, our flight is about to leave. Iask her to tell them we are on our way and off we rush. We get to the plane and still have to sit there as people continue to baord for about another 30 minutes. I ask the flight attendent if we could have some water-she tells me NO this flight doesnt have any food supplied to us. I know that but we have been sitting on hot airplanes for about 2 hours at this point. Oh well. The rest of the trip is fine, we are home about 5:30, I check mail, messages etc order a pizza for the boys and go to get the dog. Apparently he didnt have as much fun on his vacation as we did on ours, he didnt eat for 3 days and got snarly with the woman who owns the kennel. I am bummed about that. The dog is happy to see me and kisses me all the way home. He looks ok and isnt too smelly which is good, he wont need a bath until the am.
Final thoughts:
I REALLY dont know if we will go again next year. Dan and I had a few 'moments' this trip and I heard the word 'lame' more than I would have liked. I know I will go back, maybe a solo trip in April as a birthday present to myself and I know Nick wants to go again. Dan tells me he had a blast and wants to go again. I guess I will see how it goes, what discounts are available etc. I would like to stay at the BC or YC again, the pool was great. The hotel wasnt anything fabulous, in my opinion, and didnt really have a Disney feel, in my opinion. But the location is great and the pool was wonderful.
All in all it was a great trip and we had a great time. I love spending un- rushed time with my kids, I am not sure thats where we will do it next year. Thanks for reading!
