Whatsapp

I have Whatsapp on my iphone. Will it work when im in florida to send messages to my mom . As disney has free wifi Im hoping it will work. She has iphone as well.

It just needs an internet connection I think, so assuming it should work just over wi-fi!

I'll be using it to send pics to my Dad back home, when we're away

It sends messags over a data connection - so wifi (free) or mobile data (which you'll be charged an arm and a leg for!). Turn off mobile data and you shouldn't have a problem, but you won't be able to use it where there is no wifi

Thanks both that excellent. Its just my mom has fallen and broken her arm in two places and is looking after my pets whilst Im away and I wanted reassurance I can text anytime. I have my walmart phone card ready so texting and photo sending is great. Just got to try and get her to use skype !!!!!!!

On iPhone you can use iMessage too which send messages over wifi and you can send photos too.

Again make sure you turn off date and on iMessage send by SMS is also off.

hi yes it does work used it on our recent trip and worked brilliant for sending up to the minute photos back home

I love it. I used it all the time (well apart from when I was busy having fun) to send text and pictures back instantly last time I was there! It was never slow on the disney wifi either!

I actually rarely even use text in the uk anymore, whatsapp all the way

Well my mom has an iphone 3. I have downloaded the app and its not showing her the messages im sending. I can see hers. I checked all the settings and they are the same as mine so I really dont know whats wrong with it. Moms bleeps to say she has a message but presses whats app and shows no conversations nothing.Anyway I have downloaded skype but havent had much luck with that either. Good job I have my walmart phone cards. Just wanted to send her some pictures

Make sure she has the latest operating system (IOS6), that could be what's causing the problem.
You could always just set her up a facebook account, you can send photos through messages on there

Ahh that may be it. How do I update her phone? Mine normally comes up with updates available but mine is the 4s.

From the home screen......

SETTINGS - GENERAL - SOFTWARE UPDATE

For iPhone 3GS ..... this should be iOS 6.1.3
This is 757Mb so best it be done over wifi

You may need to plug it in to iTunes if it has never been updated as old versions of iOS couldn't be updated from within the OS.

I loved it to Kath and my mom who is in her 70's finds it really easy to use so I guess my 4s will be going her way the end of the year
