What's your supply chain issue? How's this one for a start?

I think, the pandemic has made people re-evaluate what they're willing to put up with. Until pay at restaurants becomes more bearable, I expect staffing problems will persist. Also, with the stock market doing so good, I expect more early retirees as well.
Sushi update. Success, but we had to be bold and walk in and eat in. We were all set to do the phone order drill again at the place that hung up on us last night, but they had just updated their Facebook that due to short staff they are suspending phone orders and food delivery service orders, walk in only.

I went to Costco Thursday (senior hour in the morning) to order my biennial pair of glasses, one regular, one sunglasses, both tri-focal. Costco is the 5th largest optical supplier in the US.

The employee taking care of me looked up my account and record and then asked if I would like either bifocals or Transitions. I thought I knew what Transitions were, but asked to confirm my thoughts. She said what I thought they were, lenses that adapt to the lighting conditions, clear to dark, dark to clear. I replied no, neither, I would like my usual (for over 30 years now) trifocal regular and trififocal sunglasses.

She said that it would be at least several more weeks to fill that order, all the lens blanks used for trifocals are on ships out in the Pacific waiting to unload. She said it's been a long time since they have had trifocals availabe for the normal one week or less delivery time. She said they were hoping for supplies before December. So, I will be wearing my 2 year old glasses for some time yet. 8-)

I guess the supply chain issues are deep and wide, even in places I would not have thought of.

How about you, have you had any supply chain issues in the past year?
Oh no! I have an eye appointment in a week and my lenses are special ordered from Japan. I may be waiting along with you.

Hi Dan,
My husband purchases equipment -they tore down Oprah’s studio in Chicago and put the foundation in for McDonalds Headquarters. Anyways, Large equipment such as cranes, backhoes, etc., are on back order till Nov, 2023. It is the computer GPS’s that operate the equipment. It is so frustrating. Computers have only been in large equipment less than 5 years, and and now nothing can be operatable without them? Sad.
I can sell your man a fully functional International Harvester but supply and demand will dictate the price 😉

The only thing I had problems finding was a Butterball turkey breast roaster...I get one every year. I went to several different stores but they never had them then...Walmart had them so I grabbed one.

I got two because I'm afraid they won't be there at Christmas. Luckily, we have a big deep freeze for them to live in until needed :rotfl:

Cat food. Might have to start hoarding!

not hoarding it but i am opening our last bag tonight so i just ordered 2-15 pound bags of my 2 cat's chosen dry stuff from chewy (i've got a few months of their wet food on hand already). i'm good for a few months now plus i went ahead and ordered them a new kitty condo for christmas. i've noticed shortages of cat food and litter on the shelves but chewy seems to be able to keep it in stock.

A few restaurants by me have done the same thing. I guess the pandemic is over just in time for the holidays.

Well, none of the pandemic restrictions in restaurants have changed here since the June 15th reopening in California. Masks still required when not actively eating, tables still spaced out.

Ours has mostly been stuff we could get by without, but since it was asked :)

DH (and myself too) is type 1 diabetic but he also has a heart issue where he cannot handle caffeine. He loved Caffeine Free Diet Mountain dew and we never had any issues pre-pandemic but we haven't been able to get it since. Oddly enough we went to Outer Banks this summer and they had it all over every store, even in bottles which we have never had here. Lunchables was an issue for us for a while - and I think the issue is still here but my DD has now decided she doesn't want lunchables so that problem resolved for us.

The thing that was an inconvenience the most for us was our HVAC breaking down. The issue was two fold - our local company we used is short staffed so it took more time for them to come check on it, and then finding the part to replace it took a while longer than we hoped. Thankfully its fixed now.

My sons car broke down in early August. It’s a 2015 Ford Focus. We had it towed to the dealership. It’s a simple fix and covered under a recall as it’s a known issue. They said it’s a quick 30 minute fix when they get the part in. They told him the part would not be in till mid October. He checked back this week and now they are saying another 6 months until they get the part! Luckily for him he had 10,000 saved up and was able to put a down payment on a new car. What the heck would someone do if they didn’t have the means to buy something else and they are told their car will be broken down for 9+ months?!! His plan was to sell his old car for 10,000 when it got fixed and pay himself back the money he was out on the new car. He has decided just to sell it to the dealership that it’s been sitting at for the last 2 months. They will only give him 7,000 but it’s better than continuing to pay insurance while it just sits on a lot waiting for a part. He had been planning to sell and buy something else anyway, but I feel so awful for anyone else waiting months for a car repair! They told him they have 23 other cars in front of his in line all waiting for the same part…

My car also needed a part in August and I had to wait about 5 weeks for it to come in to the dealership. Luckily my car was still able to be driven while waiting.

The first things I noticed were the smaller Spirit stores this year. Halloween is a big deal to us and the change there and in other stores was noticeable. Christmas appears to be going the same way.

All sorts of things are missing here. But almost never the same ones - one week it'll be paper goods, the next week dairy, the week after, soda & snacks. :sad2:

I never know if I'll come home with my whole grocery list, or less than half of it.
2 weeks in a row I was unable to buy the large cartons of half & half, only the pints were available. Cream cheese is hit or miss - one Publix might have it, but the other won't (I live halfway between 2 of them).
I used to buy cat food in WalMart, but the last few weeks they've had something like 3 cans each of 4 different flavours - and all the cans look like they were run over by the delivery truck.

Shopping these days is... an adventure.
And I'll be needing new glasses myself, in a month or so. <sigh>

We would like to buy a used car, but hard to find at reasonable price right now. Not sure if it is due to the shortage in new cars because of computer chips on back order? Whatever reason, will probably end up waiting a year or two and hope our current cars make it without major repairs popping up. They are 14 and 11 years old so could surprise us.

Same position! Our cars are 14 and 15yrs old. We are hoping now they last without big issues at least another two years due to used car prices and lack of availability.

Cat food. Might have to start hoarding!

Wet cat food is the main thing I have noticed missing from our local store’s shelves for quite a few months now. I have two cats, one very picky about his wet food, so have been buying it in bulk on Amazon when it comes available (case of 48 kind of thing). I have about a 3 month supply right now but it is getting harder and harder to find it in stock. Some may call it hoarding, but I didn’t clean out the inventory and it’s not sitting there going unused or anything. I call it “being prepared“ based on what I have been seeing. :)

Well, it sure looks like many of us are experiencing the shortages, in many different ways. Hopefully correcting over the coming weeks and months.

Thankfully *knocking on wood* I have not had any problem finding the cat food I buy. I hope it stays that way too. She will only eat about 2 different brands, so I am kind of limited in my choices.

Sometimes I think Walmart is just out to get me. The last time I was in there I wanted to get some of the "fajita chicken" they have in the little packets (close to the tuna). Of course they did not have it, so I had to get plain. Since I was in the same aisle as the tuna, I was like oh well that "tomato basil" tuna is pretty good, I should pick some up while I am here. WRONG, they did not have any. (they had everything but the tomato basil). So, I got nothing. I also like the Starkist teryaki chicken and Buffalo chicken packets. They had NO Starkist chicken at all.

Nothing life changing but I have noticed that the grocery stores aren't stocking any healthy type products. I can't find no sugar added or low fat things. Of course, I live out in the middle of nowhere with one grocery store in a rural area and the other in a college town so it might just be demographics.

I do have a friend that had to wait two months for a new stove and my son was buying a new house that was being built and the builder went under because he couldn't get materials.
