"What's Your Problem?" Caught by loop and hook... (COMPLETED 4/20, post 426)

Oh man Don - I just started reading your introductory post and I'm rolling already. Can't wait to read through the rest. :)

Hey! You found my TR! Glad you joined in. I'm working on the next installment :thumbsup2

Yeah just call me a little slow! I got through your first two days while eating my lunch. You've got some great stuff in there! I love you pics, at least, those that you posted. Bummer forgetting the laptop bag. You had me practically on the floor thinking about you running back to the bus stop for your backpack only to find someone rummaging through it...glad you've put your name on/in it now though. My DD absolutely LOVES those fountains at DTD. I can't wait to read more...

WHY... WHY... WHY did Disney create this theme park to funnel all traffic to go through Discovery Island? This has to be my biggest gripe about this park. The traffic patterns that are created with this setup creates nothing but frustration as people are trying to cut through each other to get to various places.

OMG! That ride simply blows. I've been on local carnival rides that were way better than that piece of junk. It was very jerky, loud, and overall a bad experience. To think we wasted nearly an hour on this ride still make my blood boil thinking about it today. As we were stepping off the ride, my DW just kept saying "Get me out of here!". We needed peace and quiet... quickly. SO we head towards Expedition Everest and found Finding Nemo on the way. We never even looked over our shoulders... Goodbye, Dinoland! :furious:

*Note: I was so frazzled at this point that I did not take any pictures in Dinoland. I'd rather not have any visual reminders of it either.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Oh Don... you had me cracking up so bad I'm crying. But it's so true!!! 1) I think an airhead designed that traffic pattern, and 2) I absolutely hands down HATE that ride! 3) You sure you don't want photographic reminders of Dinoland?!? Not my favorite land either. :lmao:

And here are a bunch of pictures while we are on the boat ride over to the Poly. I never knew the boat rides would be so calm and peaceful.

I LOVE taking the boats! That is one of my favorite things to do at WDW. On one of my solo excursions last year or the year before, I spent a full day just doing nothing really, but going from resort to resort, riding every form of transportation and having a ball doing so. I think I went on every single boat there was except the rental ones. For our upcoming January trip we're going to be renting a pontoon boat for an afternoon and just enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Thanks! I still think about that moment when it dawned on me that I forgot the backpack. Was not a good way to start the vacation! HAHA!

Its a drink in the Club cool area where they have free coke samples. It is an Italian drink that apparently tastes awful. check out this thread of pics of people trying, most not knowing whats coming.

I will be taking the family there this year.:lmao:

I must not have tried that one... or maybe I forgot :confused3 I'll have to make a conscious effort next trip to try this one :thumbsup2

HAHA! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this way about that area. Even after reading the post about the history behind Dinoland I feel no better about that place! :rotfl2:

I was just talking to DW about this yesterday... that there are many things we still haven't explored at WDW... including all the different methods of transportation. We may even take a day in our next trip to visit more of the resorts to see what they are like.

We exit the Innoventions pavillion and begin our walk towards World Showcase... and take an extra minute to watch the ending of another graceful display of the mighty fountains in the plaza. I have yet to watch an entire show of those fountains... must place this note in the next itinerary. I pull out the map and inquire as to which side of the world they would like to start from. Since the Showcase is pretty much new to all of us it really didn't matter to DW or DD where we started. Then I mention that we could take a friendship boat over to either Morocco or Germany. We hadn't done that yet... so many choices! DW eventually decides that we will take a boat ride over to Morocco. Excellent choice.

We get up to the boat launch and our luck was good... a boat had just arrived and was taking new passengers. With no one in line, we walk right on board and set sail for Morocco. It was a nice, relaxing ride over to our destination. We disembark and start taking in what Morocco has to offer. Everything was very new and interesting to DD. Our first few pictures were at a small play area close by. Here is DD on top of a "rock":

Then she wants to try her hand at trying to hold up the tower:

We hit a few shops:

This one was of the artwork... not the people in the background. Although the lady in this picture is probably wondering why my DW was taking her picture :lmao: :

Japan is next:

Here's a good place to find Bakugans:

I had no idea there was a big display of tin toys in Epcot! They've got a whole bunch of Disney tin toys set in glass cases. Here are just a few of them:

We took a whole bunch of pictures of the garden area around Japan... I won't bore you with them... you can click on this picture to view the other pictures in the album if you're interested:

Next up is The American Adventure. We did not hang out here very long as it was getting late in the afternoon and we wanted to start heading over to The Land to get some dinner.

We decide that the friendship boat was a good way to get back towards the plaza, so we head back to Morocco. Just as we are passing Japan, we notice a gathering around the entrance to one of the stores. Seems there is a lady there who is making candy! She is amazing! She takes a ball of warm candy and then asks someone in the audience to tell her which animal they want her to make for them. Using a few different tools she miraculously transforms the candy into the chosen animal and after letting it sit a while to harden she hands the work of art to the person in the audience. Awesome. Except... now DD wants one. So we try to maneuver into a spot where she might get picked. And after another 15 minutes of waiting... candy lady announces her time is up and no more candy. DD is not happy. But we manage to transform that frown into a smile by telling her we'll stop and get some a Mickey ear ice cream :mickeybar This is always an accepted form of bribery :)

Candy Lady:

So... we catch the next boat going out of Morocco heading back to the plaza. Since we have a little time left before our dinner time, we decided to check out Spaceship Earth. I know there are going to be a few of you out there who are going to be completely flabbergasted to know that until this day I had never been inside Spaceship Earth before (dodging spoiled food being thrown at me). It's true... I've been to Epcot more than a hand-full of times, but seemed that every time I went by the ride there was a line going out the door and I just didn't want to wait. Today was different... as we near the entrance we see people walking right on in... so we get in line. Now... all you Disney dads out there are really going to get a kick out of this. Just when we turn into the metal handrail area we see this guy in front of us. He's not just any guy... he is a Disney guy... and I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the members on this board. These pictures are the inspiration of the title for this installment. I can only imagine what was going through Pooh's mind when this morning began... I doubt he was thinking he'd be part of a braid... he looks like he's calling to me... "Help!"... LOL!

Let's see... what is my take on Spaceship Earth... I'd say this is a pretty cool ride. I mean... It's not a ride that I'd want to do 100 more times, but it certainly was entertaining and informational. My favorite part is all the gadgets you can play with after the ride. The game where you use a shuffleboard stick to move energy units around was really cool. Spent quite a while playing that game with DD. Here are the souvenir shots we got from the ride:

This is from our first time riding... I rode by myself and DD went with DW. If you look closely, you can see a few fingers above DW's head... yep... those are mine.. Hehe.

And then we rode a second time since there was no wait. You can take more interesting pictures when you know where and when the picture is taken:

Dinner time! Over to The Land we go and we eat at Sunshine Seasons. The food was good and the atmosphere was OK. If you pay attention, you can actually tell when Soarin' has just completed another showing. The traffic goes crazy through that area. Just a quick note... this is probably one of the craziest foot traffic areas in Epcot. All it takes is one small group of people to stop in the middle of the first floor and traffic backs up everywhere. It's a challenging place to quickly grab fast passes!

With our bellies full and the sun dropping in the western sky we begin to meander towards the World Showcase Lagoon.

Next up... Day 6, Part 4: "DD's first viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth!"

So...does DW know about that other woman with the Blue Hair?

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Let me assume there were not many people making fun of this guys pooh bear.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I hope you got to spend some more time in World Showcase, there is a ton more to see.

LOL! I assume the same thing! pirate:

Unfortunately, no... that's all the World Showcase we experienced this trip. We WILL be spending more time there this year... seeing how a certain other Disney park may be avoided entirely next trip :rolleyes1

I can't remember exactly where we found this little hideaway... but I believe it was under the train station by Splash Mountain. DD loves play areas... even if she is too big for them! This gives me and DW a chance to relax for a few minutes.

Yep, it's by the exit of Splash, under the train station. My DD loves to play there when we get off of SM. It's great as a waiting place too, when DW invariably always has to use the restrooms after SM!

Later on in the day we manage to run into a parade on Main Street. As you can see by the crowd size, this was not a well anticipated parade. I was not very impressed by this particular parade... although I DID get to see Woody! Didn't seem to be much thought put into the parade... like someone said, "Hey! round up various characters, put them on these spare floats over here, and open the gates!"

This little "parade" was for the WHAT WILL YOU CELEBRATE? marketing campaign of 2009. It was run several times per day, just making it's way up MS from Town Square to the hub - stopping for a show stop around the hub, and then making its' way back down MS back to the parade route end. I agree with you in that it seemed pretty much thrown together, wich a bunch of diverse characters just thrown in party hats and put on the floats. It wasn't very good, and pretty much shut down Main Street, causing most of the vehicles to be put away pretty darn early each day. It was really just "filler" since there was so little meat to that particular theme.

I never noticed the snow stuff last year:

This is a traditional photo spot for our kids every visit! They LOVE the snowman.

From SBT we travel up Streets of America towards Star Tours. I've been looking forward to riding this one again because the last time I rode it was back in 1993. DD was fighting with us and was very reluctant to get on the ride. She is not fond of 4D simulators... this fear stems from a ride she went on at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, when she was 3. Scared the wits out of her. But as we neared the attraction, she seemed to be more interested. We caught the middle of a Jedi training session... DD wanted to join in on the fun... but we ended up watching it from the back. This was just enough entertainment to make her want to check out Star Tours. Apparently, this ride has lost it's spark. I couldn't even enjoy the queue because there was no one in the line. But I did manage to take a few shots while walking through:

The ride was just as I remembered it. DD and DW both seemed to enjoy the ride. But it really does need to be updated. Would be cool to get some high definition video in there and maybe some awesome explosions... add some realistic heat to go with it. So many things they could do!

It's good you got to experience it again... you do know that Star Tours 2.0 will be coming to the parks on both coasts in 2011, right? It was a huge announcement at the D23 Expo in September. I'm anxious to ride it one more time next week - as it will close, I believe in September or October this year for the renovations making way for the new version, which will be in 3-D with a completely new film. The art work and trailer I saw were of podracing from Episode I, but I'm think there will be more to it than just that. And of course, it'll be digital vs. film, I'm sure HD and all that too.

Personally I hope they still have one theatre showing the original that you could choose between the old and the new - but they probably won't. After 23 years, Captain Rex will finally stop heading out for his "first flight".

Thanks for the update, Chris :thumbsup2 I knew I could count on you for the details :) I wonder what parades they will have for this year's theme? Oh... what IS the theme this year? Give A Day, Get a Disney Day?? Or are they continuing the What Will You Celebrate? I'm confused... :confused3

More awesome topiaries:

When I took my sons down to WDW this past May for our first Star Wars Weekends experience, the garden festival was still going. It was so awesome to see all of the different topiaries. I really liked them. I think my favorites were the Peter Pan scene with Captain Hook and the croc over near the play area by Germany, I believe, and the Aladdin & flying carpet one by Morocco. They were pretty cool!

I can't say exactly what 2010's theme is for WDW. Give a Day, Get a Day is cool, but I don't think it's an actual theme... but who knows. I do know that DL is putting up stuff to celebrate the 55th anniversary this year.

:lmao: im assuming you didnt tap that guy on the sholder and ask him if you could take his pic.!!:thumbsup2 no longer hidden mickeys, we should do hidden pooh!! :lmao: great up date, nice pics!! its killing me to look at the pics, its 25 degrees, windy and cloudy here. cant wait to get back!:thumbsup2

I think they're doing the "Give a Day, Get a Disney DaY" promotion to get people into the parks, but keeping the "Celebrate" theme once you are there. :confused3

So...does DW know about that other woman with the Blue Hair?

Better watch out guys, I saw Pooh Bear/Biker Guy hanging out with Blue Hair Lady down at Pleasure Island. If he catches wind of you ragging on his old lady, you're gonna need a little more than Pixie Dust to keep you from ending up in a bloody heap! :rotfl2:

That kind-of makes sense. You think Disney would come up with a better theme for their parks :confused3

LOL... no... no tapping on that shoulder :rotfl2: Although if you think about it... any guy that puts Pooh in their hair can't be THAT grumpy :lmao::lmao:

Yeah... finishing this TR when it's 31 outside doesn't seem right... but it's keeping me warm inside :cloud9:
