People must pack an absolute TON of stuff if the two free checked bags on Southwest is such a perk. I think I've maybe checked a bag twice over 100+ flights over the last decade.

Well, if you had a child in college across the country it would come in handy! She's graduated now but we still are carting some of her stuff to her when we visit. I check one bag quite a bit when we visit our kids on the west coast, or most times when a trip is over a week in duration. When you know you can check a bag for free it is tempting to do that and not have a large carryon, I can just board with my tote bag. Even one free bag adds up over time.

We frequently combine a 7-night or longer cruise with resort stays at both WDW and one of the Florida beaches. The total trip might be as long as three weeks. We each check one bag, and when flying SW, we might take advantage of the ability to add another checked bag for free to have a separate bag for the fancier clothes we enjoy wearing on formal night on the cruise. So a total of three checked bags for the two of us is not out of the question.People must pack an absolute TON of stuff if the two free checked bags on Southwest is such a perk. If you fly a decent amount, pick an airline and add up your miles to get status. Get an airline card that gives you perks. It will change the way you view travel. On that rare occasion I have to fly some other airline I realize air travel can really be awful.

Well....the vast majority of people check at least one bag. My dh couldn't go for more a day without a checked bag. His using a carry on bag would mean he was going overnight...maybe. That would be a stretch. He badly overpacks. I can get away with a carry on bag only for trips under 4 nights. But, if I have a free checked bag, then I'll use it. I refuse to pay for a checked bag.People must pack an absolute TON of stuff if the two free checked bags on Southwest is such a perk.
