Looking to book a cruise for early next year.....

Trying to decide between midship and aft? Which do you prefer and why? Does it depend on the ship? (We are looking at the Dream)

I presume that higher up is better (Deck 10 preferable to Deck 7) - closer to pool?

Midship and as high as possible is best. Hence the prices increase.

We usually go midship if possible. More central location seems good for exploring and getting places. Plus, midship you feel less movement, which is never a problem for me, but occasionally an issue for DH.

We also like higher decks for the view and the closeness to the pool deck (which, for us is more about snacks and soda than swimming).

But one thing we always look at is what is around us. We don't want to be right underneath a club or a busy deck area because we want to avoid extra noise while in our stateroom. I'd rather be a deck or two lower than listen to kids running or chairs scraping the deck.

We stayed a little bit closer to aft on our last cruise on deck 9. One thing we did like about it was the proximity to the aft elevators which are typically less crowded (except for after the muster drill). Our first one we stayed midship on deck 10. Neither location was bad. On deck 10 you do get a little bit of noise from the deck chairs but wasn't bothersome.

For me it does depend on the ship. Do you have kids? If I assume yes then think proximity to kids club as well. I would pick between midship and aft so I could easily go to either elevator. Also personally I don't like deck 10. We were 10 aft port and I will not book that one again it was too noisy at night. The location was fine for somethings, but overall I wouldn't choose it. We like deck 6 or 7 because and as I said midway between aft and midship and also not as daunting a stair walk if necessary to most decks

We loved our midship location (haven't stayed aft) because it seems easy to get to everything. Our preference is to stay on deck 7,8, or 9 since they aren't underneath public spaces and we don't have to worry about noise from deck chairs, etc.

On our last cruise on the Magic, we stayed midship deck 6 and we loved it. We liked being mid because it was easier to get to either end of the ship quickly. We also liked not being too high up because it was easy to get down to decks 3 and 4 quickly if the elevators were being slow. Likewise, it wasn't a big deal to go up three flights if I needed to get to deck 9 quickly.

Last time on the Dream we were deck 8 on the Dream and forward and we honestly weren't fans of being forward. I'd rather be aft. But deck 8 was good. I might like to be deck 7 or lower, however, especially wish kids using the clubs.

High and Aft...elevators and stairs less crowded and a quick walk (no elevator needed) to Cabana's, pool and self serve beverages (morning coffee)

Deck 6 aft. Less foot traffic and half way between decks. Easy to take the stairs up and down.

We like aft for the quick shot up to the drink station and Cabanas/Beach Blanket!

We prefer aft, due to closeness to cabanas and drink station. It's also closer to kids pools and aqua duck.

Midship would be better for going to cove cafe and the adults only pool as well as pool deck food. It's also closer to the theatres.

The one thing I did not like about aft was carrying my four year old from the Walt Disney Theatre back to our room after she fell asleep during Villains Tonight!

We like aft, but I prefer deck 6 or 7 over the higher decks - more central to everything.

We like midship just make sure you are not across from the elevators/stairs that will help cut down on noise. We also like higher up. On the Magic and Wonder we love deck 7. I can see where aft would be convenient to Cabanas though. Good luck with your decision. :)

If you are concerned with motion sickness I would go lower level.
Put your hands straight up in the air and slightly move it, you'll notice closer to your palm moves less than your fingers.

I get EXTREMELY sea sick. I got sick still tied to the pier. Its the super small movements that you dont even feel that get to me. Rough seas are great from me because I do not get sick!

Anyways, because of this, we booked a midship (we were right over the stabilizers and could see them out our window) deck 2. I loved the location. It was up one flight of stairs and we were in the main lobby. We spent most of our time on decks 3 & 4 for family activities (and dining), so it worked out great. I could go from a character line, to our room and back in about 2-3 families seeing a character. Super fast. We are not really pool people, so we did not go up very often. I also liked being lower because a few times, we encountered a pod of dolphins and they were pretty much right outside our window. We could see their eyes we were so close.
