What's your pet(s) name, and how did you come up with it?

I have a 6 year old, sassy miniature poodle mix. Her name is Stella. When we adopted her as a puppy, we kept saying names we thought would be good. I remember seeing a billboard when I was driving that advertised the wine Stella. I said "Stella" and DH, and our 2 DD's agreed to call her that. It fits her perfectly. My dog before her, DH, his sister and I were thinking of names. SIL said "Scruffy" and we went with that.

Our quarantine cockapoo is Roxie (she's about 4 1/2 years old). Gave a list of potential names to DH, who DID.NOT.WANT a dog. He chose Roxie, and now completely loves her more than any other pet we've had.

Previous dogs (cocker spaniels) were Pokie (because he was!) and Chauncey (which just sounded classy).

Edited to add cute Roxie picture.

We've got 2 indoor cats, Elsa and Butch. Elsa got her name because she was a little stray kitten who showed up every suppertime for food. One morning, in an ice storm, we woke up and she was still there. I chose the name Elsa because of her "bringing us ice"-we live in a tropical area that never snows or ices.
Butch was another stray, who just kept showing up and following DH around. Whenever he'd show up, DH would yell "Hey, Butch" in an Italian accent like in "Lady and the Tramp, when they go to the restaurant. The name stuck, and now they're not strays, they stay indoors.

This is Merida - named after one of my 2 favorite Disney princesses. (The other is Moana, and honestly she's slightly ahead of Merida - but my tuxie boy I had who died at the beginning of Feb 2020 was named Mo (after the runner Mo Farrah) and it seemed cruel to name her Moana since it's so close to Mo.)

(We adopted each other at the ASPCA on Feb 29, 2020. Her shelter name was Skylar, which is adorable...but I had a rather challenging child in my class a few years prior with that name, and I didn't want to be reminded of them every time I called my cat's name.)

This is Silvian. I did not name her, but she came with that name from the Humane Society. I did gravitate toward her becasue her name was similar to my old cat, Sylvester, who I also did not name, but my sister named him after the Loony Tunes character.

My dogs’ names are boring. Ginger because she’s a Ginger haired dog and I got overwhelmed. The younger dog is also a ginger, but we named her Myrtle. It just seemed to fit her.

My dog before that was Paisley. She was a hound mix that had a very interesting pattern on her first Paisley seemed to work.

Before that I had a Whitney, a Windy, and Dusty. The names just seemed to fit their looks.

My current 2 we applied for adoption during a Florida vacation that was at the start of covid. We ended the vacation early to return to NY since they were shutting everything down. The dogs were named Fauna and Charles Brown. During the drive home we kept throwing out names and came up with Boomer and Faye.

I adopted Boris and Natasha during Covid. They were a bonded brother and sister about 4 months old. I brought them to my vet after adopting them (they had no names) and my vet and vet tech thought they were part Russian blues. We tried out several blue theme names and Russian names and landed on Boris and Natasha.

Our standard poodle is named after the anthem singer for our local hockey team.

I had chosen the name for our previous dog so my husband called dibs on choosing this dog’s name. He had long said he was going to give him a name related to the team, but we got the dog during the NHL lock out. The anthem singer was the only person associated with the team that he wasn’t annoyed with, so the anthem singer got the honor.

Well, we have no dogs or cats but we have a dragon.
A Bearded Dragon, that is.
His name is Max. Before him we had Lucy.
In between we had Rocky & Bullwinkle who were brother rats.

ETA: Sorry, I forgot the other request of the OP.
DS named both Dragons without any hesitation.
I have no idea where the names came from.

Rocky & Bullwinkle were my picks, I just thought it fit the brothers.

'zombie' got her name b/c she appeared at our home and one of our first encounters with her entailed me walking into our darkened family room and seeing (at my height level) 2 glowing green eyes staring in through our patio door. I screamed 'zombie, zombie' (dh was watching all the zombie stuff on TV back then). realized it was a cat that had climbed up and clung to our screen door.

'mew' is 'zombie's' kitten-named b/c she strongly resembles our former house cat who passed a week following the birth of 'mew' (no relation)-former house cat's name was 'meow' (what happens when you let a 2 year old name a cat :rotfl:).
