What's your New Year's Eve Menu?

Assuming you either don't go out New Years' Eve, or have dinner early for the kids then go out, what do you have for NYE?

My mother had a tradition I love to follow--all food must be store-bought pre-prepared. Outside of heating something up, she refused to do any actual cooking on NYE. Her thinking was that she was all cooked out by the end of the holiday season and wanted to end the holidays and begin the New Year on a convenientand realistic note. Face it, the three main components of the holidays are presents, decorations, and food.(oh, yes, love, peace, joy, ....I'm talking about the tangible parts). It was her way of getting back to normal, and she was pretty tired of cooking by then. I remember she had a buffet of cold cuts, cheeses, salads, cake, etc. Worked out great for various comings and goings. Its hard to settle a group down at once on NYE.

Just wondering what the rest of you do!

We don't really do anything special for New Year's Eve....but do pork and kraut on New Year's Day.

We get stone crabs and champagne after DS, 5, goes to bed.

Our menu is appetizers only! We usually get buffalo wings, potato skins, little cocktail hot dogs, mozzerella sticks, (you get the idea). No one has to "cook". Just heat up in the oven or microwave! DD9 really looks forward to it! :)

We go stay over at a friend's house every year. They have two kids and the DD's b-day is new year's day. So we celebrate NY's and then in the morning, her b-day!
We've done all sorts of different things. This year we're doing pizza and munchies through the night.

we'll be having whatever SciFi Cafe is serving on New Years. Two more days and we'll be there!!!!

We do the appetizer thing as well. Our menu this year is cocktail franks, mozzerella sticks, potato skins, sweet n sour meatballs and just to throw a little bit of healthy food in the mix - a fruit tray (with fruit dip, of course)!

We pick up Chinese food and save the fortune cookies for midnight.

We do take out chinese food, and are usually asleep before midnight!

Our tradition is the kids pick the menu. They decide what we will be eating. We've had BBQ steak and corn on the cob, ham and potatoes, roast and yorkshire pudding. We always toast in the new year with chocolate milk with a chocolate mint stick.

Corned beef and cabbage here. I just throw it in the dutch oven and let it cook for a cook for a few hours so it isn't any trouble at all.

Usually a prime rib and stuffed shrimp. DH loves the prime rib. Although this year I'm thinking of a beef tenderloin. And something chocolate for dessert.

We get Lobster....steamers, etc.
I suggested DH make Lobster pie, this year...and put some other seafood in there....scallops, etc. DH is a really good cook and we usually have a variation of lobster, we've had baked stuff, steamed. On of my employees mentioned Lobster Pie to me yesterday and being as extremely pregnant that I am, that sounds really good. I'm not up to dealing w/steamers this year, but we usually have shrimp cocktail.

DH will be at the fish market bright and early tomorrow. I'll probalby tag along in the car. The earlier you go there, the better. It is their busiest day of the year.

Our family has had the same tradition since i was a kid and DH and I adopted the same tradition when we got married. We don't like to go out on NEw Years Eve. I am very nervous about the drinking and driving. I don't like to leave my children either. We end up getting Chinese Food and watching movies. It has been many years since i have seen the new year ring in.

with DH, crack open the Chianti after DS is sleeping, and maybe make it to midnight depending on how big the wine bottle is....

We stay at home with our daughters. Go sledding and have salami, cheese and crackers; shrimp; veges..........
This year we have no snow. We are going to a hotel for the night. We can spend some time in the pool and eat our snacks.

DH & I are getting take out from Lenny & Joe's Fishtale in either Madison or Westbrook, CT-if I work a bit later then normal, I will pick it up in Madison on my way home but if not, then I will come home & dh will go to the Westbrook place & get our yummy dinner.

I know I am getting a Lobster Roll platter & a side of onion rings & I am not sure what dh is getting.

Wow, I getting some great ideas. I think I'll go with appetizers. Vhauffman's mom had the right idea! I'm pooped.;)
