It's a cold and rainy weekend here in Arizona. ODD is sick with a cold, so between that and the weather, we are all snuggled up inside today and I'm watching Fresh Baked Disney videos and pretending to do laundry and house cleaning. :laundy:

But what I really want to do this cold and blustery afternoon is plan more of our trip! We're going at the end of May/beginning of June when our kids' school year is over. I'm having a REALLY hard time narrowing down all the restaurants & places to eat for our 5 days at DL! We'll be checking into our hotel mid-morning on a Tuesday, so will probably get to DL around 11am.

Some foods/restaurants that we are thinking of are:
  • Trader Sam's or Tangaroa Terrace
  • lunch at Carnation Cafe - hopefully so we can meet Chef Oscar! We tried the fried pickles there once before and didn't care for them.
  • Mickey beignets from the Mint Julep Bar
  • lunch or dinner at Cafe Orleans - so DH & I can have a fried green tomato sandwich. Wish these were still at the Hungry Bear!
  • Hungry Bear
  • Flo's V8 cafe
  • an ice cream sundae from Ghiradelli's in DCA
  • I'd like to try 1 of the coveted corn dogs at the little red wagon on Main Street that everyone always raves about. I'm not a corn dog fan, but maybe I just haven't had a really good one before!
  • maybe a WOC lunch at Carthay Circle or I might spring for the special WOC dessert package

What about the rest of you? What are your most FAVORITE snacks, lunches, and dinners at DL, DCA, GCH, or DLH?

Hungry Bear is AMAZING for lunch but probably not as great with the ROA being shut down. It was one of our favorite places for the sight seeing quiet alone.

Our absolute favorite lunch/dinner (besides BB haha) Is French Market. Fun atmosphere. Great people watching. Good food.

The corn dogs are great and I Don't love corn dogs!

Snacks..favorite is churros hands down. But honestly, how to choose with so many things in every shop?! The caramel apples are so amazing.

I usually have 3 corn dogs during our 5 day trips (they are that good!), Monte Cristo from CO, DH & DD love the fried chicken from plaza inn (I'm not a big bone-in chicken fan so I get a corn dog and eat it with them), I like the French dip from French market. For snacks churro, cream cheese filled pretzels, beignets from Ralph Brennan's (we think they are way better than the ones in DL).

Keeping it simple.

Lunch: Plaza Inn
Snacks: Beignets at Ralph Brennan"s Jazz Kitchen
Dinner: Clam Chowder at Pacific Wharf for those chilly evenings

Even though there's no view of the river at Hungry Bear right now, the nice thing is that it isn't as crowded as the other counter service places. We had a great and somewhat quiet meal there last weekend. The restrooms weren't crowded either, when the rest of the park was packed.

We also like the patio area at Pizza Port. The pastas and the pizzas are all good. Sometimes I get a salad and the breadsticks with marinara dipping sauce.

For snacks, we like churros and Mickey pretzels. My favorites are the cream cheese filled pretzels

Lunch- monte Christi at BB
Snack- Dole Whip
Dinner- shrimp and grits at Ralph Brennan's

Here are some of the food highlights from my trip from 2/9 - 2/13.

  • Quick Service
    • Corn Dogs from the Little Red Wagon (behind the Plaza Inn).
    • Safari Skewer and Outback Vegetable Skewer from Bengal Barbecue (Adventureland)
    • Bread Bowl, with Loaded Potato soup, from Pacific Wharf Cafe (DCA)
    • PB&J Eclair from Jolly Holiday Bakery
    • Breakfast Burrito at White Water Snacks (Disney's Grand Californian Hotel)
    • The Strike it Rich Butterscotch Hot Fudge Sundae at the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop (DCA)
    • Turtle (with yellow hat) cake pop from any of the bakeries. This is a red velvet cake. Part of the Main Street Electrical Parade limited items.
  • Table Service
    • Lobster Nachos and Fun Wheel (secret drink menu) from The Cove Bar (DCA)
    • Fried Biscuits appetizer at Carthay Circle Restaurant (DCA)
    • Serrano Ham Benedict at Steakhouse 55 (Disneyland Hotel)
  • Loved the World of Color Desert Party!!! While I am not allergic to coconut, I had Guest Services put a note about coconut in my reservation. They were able to accommodate and substitute some other options. Also, being able to sit before the show and during the show was really great. I didn't have to line up as soon as people with a Fast Pass or the Dining option.
Now I did try some other food items. I liked the Mint Julep, but I really didn't consider that a snack. I tried the 3-cheese Monte Cristo at Cafe Orelans. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't piping hot when it was served. So it didn't have the melty and gooey factor that I was wanting. I also did some quick meals (lunch and breakfast) at Tangaroa Terrace (Disneyland Hotel). This is a great option if you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel or are in the area.

I tried the Mac & Cheese Bread cone from the Cozy Cone Motel. It wasn't bad, but I wish I had gone back to the Pacific Wharf Cafe and had the bread bowl and soup.

I also ate at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Frontierland. For theme park mexican food, it was pretty good.

To be honest, I really didn't find anything I totally did not like. Yes, I there were items I liked better than others. But I think this comes down to a personal preference. There are places I wish I would have been able to try. This means I have new things to try when I return.

The one thing I wish I had tried, which may be gone when I return for D23 in July, is the Fantasia ice cream or Fantasia ice cream whoopie pie. This is part of the secret menu at the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor. Tom and Mary Jo, from the DIS - Disneyland team did a vlog about this.

So many to choose from, but:

Lunch: Chicken Nachos at White Water Snacks
Snack: savory: fresh popcorn, sweet: Tigger Tail
Dinner: Tamale and enchilada plate at Rancho Del Zocholo

Keeping it simple.

Lunch: Plaza Inn
Snacks: Beignets at Ralph Brennan"s Jazz Kitchen
Dinner: Clam Chowder at Pacific Wharf for those chilly evenings
I've had the clam chowder in a bread bowl at Pacific Wharf! It really hits the spot!

Street Tacos from Rancho Zocalo (sp?), and the marshmallow/caramel/chocolate dipped treat from the bakery by The Winnie the Pooh ride are my favorites.

Favorite lunch or dinner: fried pickles and baked potato soup from Carnation Cafe
Favorite snacks: churros, dole whip and dill pickle popcorn from Cozy Cone Cafe
Favorite drinks: frozen lemonade and frozen apple drink from cozy cone cafe

I really recommend making a reservation at Carnation Cafe for at least one meal!

We're big snackers so we don't usually sit down to big meals while there. Love eating at White Water Snacks (nachos/pretzels) for either lunch or dinner. Soup in the bread bowls and chili-CONE-carne is yummy! Chimicungas, churros, hot dogs, corn on the cob, popcorn from the carts....my new favorite is a cheese on a stick from Corn dog castle at DCA, like a corn dog but just cheese and no dog. :o Desserts, churros of course, raspberry macaron from Jolly Holiday place, and beignets from Mint Julep bar with some hot chocolate...yum!

Lunch: fried chicken from Plaza Inn

Snacks/light meal: cheese and charcuterie board from Alfresco Tasting Terrace

Dinner: anything from Carthay Circle Restaurant or Lounge. (Also the pear martini!)

Since I have Celiac Disease, I'm a bit limited as to snacks. I do love the Caramel Corn, English Toffee, and of course Dole Whip.

My current 'must have' lunch is the GF Teriyaki Chicken bowl at Lucky Fortune Cookery.

Dinner? Depends on the mood and how late of a lunch we had. The burgers at Hungry Bear and Smokejumpers are really good (GF burgers are cooked fresh when you order) and of course french fries are a treat to any Celiac. The pot roast at Plaza in was really good, too.
