What's your favorite GF treat at DL?

We're heading there tomorrow for a few hours to see the parade and fireworks. I have Celiac disease and I haven't had any treat other than Dole Whip at DL in a long time. Are there any other GF treats worth having? Thanks!

I'm not GF, however I keep reading about an amazing brownie you can get at the Jolly Holiday Bakery.

But I am totally down for Dole Whips. YUM.

I want to try the brownie too but so far my favorite was a chocolate flourless mickey served at the Blue Bayou for my b-day. I'm not sure where else they serve it and do not know if it was on the BB menu. I also liked the caramel corn we bought on a streetside cart in California Adventure and ice cream sundaes (prepared by a manager with fresh cartons) at the DL ice cream place on Main Street. The resort overall has fantastic GF offerings - I've never been glutened and have eaten at many table service and counter service places at each park, hotel and DTD. Have fun!

Dole Whips, Caramel Corn, the GF choc chip cookie or brownie (pre-packaged) from Jolly Holiday, the English toffee from Candy Palace.

Nice to know about the gf choc Mickey at BB! I asked about GF dessert when I was there in August and was told there wasn't anything! I'll have to ask about that specifically next time!

My understanding is that there's no dedicated bakery, so unless the item is wrapped, like the ones at Jolly Holiday, there's a risk of cross contamination. That may be why they don't offer it as an option. Or it might not really be GF. You can also ask about the Matterhorn Macaroon at Jolly Holiday, which in theory shouldn't contain gluten. Also, the Tiger Tails at Pooh Corner are just Marshmallows dipped in white chocolate, right?

Re: the chocolate mickey at BB, I did not order it- they brought it out because it was my birthday and it was a great surprise. I have no idea if there was CC going on but I didn't have any sort of reaction and I'm pretty sensitive.

When making ADR's I always specify the gluten "allergy" just so the chef knows ahead of time - not sure if that made a difference either.

I was told (by more than one CM) that both the Tigger Tails & Matterhorn Mac were NOT considered GF, I'm assuming it's because they are 'dunked' in a common pot with nonGF stuff. So I stay away from anything 'dunked' as a result.

I would want to question about the flourless choc cake, too. I started to have one at Storyteller's upon a waiter's recommendation when we were advised by the chef that, while the cake itself was fine, the pans were dusted with flour. That was a few years ago so maybe they've changed that particular procedure. I did have an absolutely fab Chocolate Gateau at Club33 that was safe. Just wish they'd offer that elsewhere!

Although I think Disney does an excellent job with allergies, I think it's too bad they don't 'do' more sweets.

That doesn't really surprise me. I'm assuming that take most of the caramel apples out of consideration as well.

I agree. Sweets is where Disney seem to care as much. One of my daughters has a peanut allergy and gets upset when she sees all of the wonderful treats and we can't let her have one. She argues that they don't have nuts on them... but she can't have them because of the risk of cross contamination. I know there are a lot of allergies out there but if gluten and nuts are some of the most common, you would think they could figure out a way to do something. I'd absolutely pay more for something I could trust was safe.

I agree the weak area in Disney allergy friendly food is sweets. It's that way on their cruise ships too. But, if I had to pick one that was weak, that would be it. I like sweets, but I'm better off eating less of them. If there wasn't good savory food to eat but there were sweets, then I'd live off the latter to not go hungry which isn't good!

So I picked up a bag of toffee last night. Ate two pieces and am completely fine today. And it was delicious. Yay! I was told last year that the caramel apples are not safe. Bummer. Thanks for the toffee tip! (To be clear, it is not marked GF, and I suppose it is possible that it could get cross contaminated, but it seems like they make one candy at a time, so I decided it was a reasonable risk.)

I gotta catch up to the 21st century. I saw the title and thought it was asking what's your favorite treat to buy your girlfriend.

Oh good! Yeah, that's why I took a chance, too. They were making it that day and I had faith in their equipment cleaning practices from the day before.

It's a bummer about the caramel apples, isn't it? I really love them. Even if they just did a plain one, I'd be happy.

I'd always thought that if they did a big batch as a 'first run' in the morning (assuming they don't re-use the caramel from the day before) and just put them in the cooler or something (away from the 'contaminated' ones) it would be nice. It may be that they'd run out of them early in the day due to limited quantities, but hey, I'll settle for a caramel apple as breakfast. I mean, who wouldn't? LOL
