What's your Disney bucket list???

You’re trying to talk your BF into DVC? I don’t think you can win that one. You’re asking him to commit to Disney almost every year. That’s asking a lot. I’m a every 2-3 year guy. I don’t know many folks who want to go every year.

You might have better luck renting points. I’m sure you can get him on board. It’s a nice way to try it out for less money.

Check out the Dis Unplugged video on who shouldn’t buy. I thought about buying until I saw it. I’m a casual tourist / last minute traveler, so it doesn’t work for me. Make sure it works for you. It’s a lot of money.

I’m definitely not talking my significant other into Club 33 membership. But I’d still like to dine there once.

Yeah, it is definitely a hard sell. I wanted to rent points this next trip but the logistics were difficult to work out. I plan on doing it for our next trip so we can see how we like it. He's never been to WDW so he has no idea what to expect when we go this fall. I'm crossing my fingers he falls in love (but I'm not sure that will happen). He did tell me last night that we can go to DL every year and WDW every other year so I am wearing him down a little bit ;)

I will say that there are a LOT of people here on the boards who go multiple times a year, I envy that.

What options are there to dine at Club 33 without membership? It's on my list as well even if I never get to be a member.

I need variety, and I definitely like DL over WDW. I’m not a super planner, so it’s easier for me.

I’m curious how WDW goes over for him. I find it a different experience compared to WDW.

That makes sense. I'm an extreme planner, especially when it comes to Disney. We live on the west coast so I've been to DL a lot more than WDW but I love WDW more. I try to take several trips a year so luckily I still get my variety in. We are doing DL and WDW this year but also have trips planned to Denver, Vegas, and SF.

I'm curious as well! I talk about it allll the time so hopefully I'm not overselling it. He's not a huge Disney fan but he likes Disney. He's been to DL a couple times and went to Disney Sea for a day while he was in Tokyo on his bar trip. He just knows how much it means to me so he's accepting/tolerating it.

Good luck.

What attracts me to going back is new attractions. I’d get bored doing the same ones every year. What I’m excited about is the new Star Wars rides. Of course, I’ll ride the classics like Peter Pan and PoC. But nostalgia alone doesn’t bring me back like it did when I was in my late 20s.

What attracts your significant other? If you can figure this out, then it’s an easy sell. I’m going back in Oct because my significant other loves Halloween. It’s an easy sell.

What blows my mind though is folks spending $700 a night to stay on property in WDW. I’ve never spent that much on a hotel ever.

The best hotel that I ever stayed at was Hotel 41 in London. The beds are Savoir. They retail for about $8k. Best sleep ever. I think, I spent $400 a night there through Costco. And their customer service made Disney look bad in comparison. Likewise, the Grand Hyatt in Kauai is mind blowing. I spent less than $400 a night there.

I find the hotels by DL more reasonably priced. Again, it’s easier to sell my significant other on DL with the much cheaper hotels. If the price gets too high, she’ll start comparing it to Europe and Hawaii. The conversation will degrade into: why are we spending more money to go to Disney than Hawaii or Europe?

I'm obsessed with Disney and will probably always be nostalgic for it so I know I'll keep coming back. Motivating my BF is a different story though, he loves Pixar and Toy Story but I don't necessarily think that's enough to sell him. He's a pretty big foodie so maybe the WDW restaurants will be a good selling point.

I have never spent that much either! I'm pretty low fuss on accommodations, I've backpacked in Europe several times. My BF tends to enjoy the finer things in life so he is more particular about hotel rooms. For this reason, we're staying at Grand Legacy when we go to DL next month and I'm slightly worried how he will find the quality of CBR when we go to WDW in September. I would definitely agree there are nicer hotels than Disney for less of a cost BUT people come to Disney for the magic.

My BF is the same way. He was shocked at the price of a 7-day WDW trip and argued we could go somewhere else for cheaper. However, I had to point out that's the package price/total cost he is freaking out over. We have spent much more going to Mexico and staying club-level at an all-inclusive resort. The reason it was easier to swallow is we paid for that trip piecemeal (i.e. booked flights first, later booked the room through Costco, upgraded to club-level upon arrival, paid separately for excursions, etc.). Trip costs are much easier to rationalize when they're spread out versus logging into MDE and seeing that big number in one place.

Victoria and Albert's
VIP Tour
Visiting the parks in Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Paris
Staying in Cinderella's Castle Suite - maybe I will win a Disney contest!
Club 33 Membership (yeah, this one is never gonna happen but a girl can dream!)

The good food in WDW is at the resorts, not in the parks. In general the food is much better at DL/DCA.

If I was going to spend $500 or more a night, I’d stay at the Four Seasons in Orlando, which is still more than I spent at the Fairmont in Maui.

Is Magic another way of saying nostalgia? I definitely have good childhood memories of taking the monorail to the contemporary for character breakfast as a kid. But I don’t want to stay there. I discovered that I really just enjoyed riding the monorail around and exploring the resorts. As a kid seeing the different theming was amazing.

My requirements are simple: good bed, good meals, and lots of rides. Oh, and a hat and lots of sunscreen.

Good luck selling him. Try to keep the sticker shock to a minimum.

I have all of these on my list as well! :) A VIP tour would be SO cool. I would love to hire a plaid someday but that price tag is steep.

Funny you say that because I have never had anything spectacular at DL/DCA and feel like it's far more limited when comparing the DLR to WDW resort. I may not be eating in the right places then....

Hmm, Disney magic is something that can't be explained, just felt. I tear up at the commercials and find a weird sense of being "home" when I'm in the parks.

I think he's taking it like a champ so far. He chose all of our 2018 vacations so he is trying to be tolerant that 2019 is my year which means lots of Disney. We split the costs so it's not thaaaat bad. I can't imagine in a number of years when we have small humans to take with us.

Give me a tip. What’s good in HS?

Does he know about this little human thing?

DHS is the exception, not the rule. Haha. Well known around the boards that the food is sub-par there. What do you recommend at DL/DCA? We're planning on BB and CC while we are there.

LOL. Yes, he does. He's more invested in the little human thing than I am. We just got a puppy and that's making me slightly nervous for how intensive caring for little humans will be (we both have FT jobs, he's an attorney which means he regularly works 80 hour weeks).

I like the trattoria in DCA for World of Color. CC isn’t that great. I also don’t like Blue Bayou either.

There is a great Cajun restaurant in downtown Disney that escapes me at the moment that I like.

Let me refresh my memory on DL dining. It’s been a couple of years.

I haven't been to Trattoria. We are doing BB Fantasmic! Package. I ate at BB last October and thought it was good. Haven't been to CC yet. We are doing WoC Dessert Party the same night so I'll probably do a salad or split a meal with my BF.

Hmm, is it Jazz Kitchen you are thinking of? I feel like I ate there YEARS ago and wasn't impressed but I'm talking 10+ years ago so things could have changed. We don't usually eat TS at DL/DCA (there isn't a ton of options, I'm counting 7 between the two parks). We did Carnation Cafe a couple years ago (random musing: would this also be abbreviated to CC, that's confusing) and it was just okay.

It was Jazz Kitchen. It’s hit or miss. It’s either really good or just ok.
