What's your #1 tip that you learned here on the DIS?

I learned on these boards to wear COMFY shoes! DH & I both bought tevas & they are great!

We also took a break half way thru the trip, slept in, did laundry at the hotel while we vegged out by the pool drinking banana daquiris!
We then went to MK that night rested and ready to conquer the pre-parade/fireworks crowds.

I also learned from these boards to pack a small fold-up soft sided ice chest for the room. On the way home you can use as a carry on for souvenirs if you have to.

Buy a "squeeze breeze" water mister fan at Wal-Mart or Bed, Bath & Beyond. Much cheaper than in the parks.

I've learned a lot from all the experts here. Next time I will pack with ziplocks, use the town car service, and buy a lanyard.

Can you tell me what a stroller swap is please?

The stroller swap is located on the budget board near the top. What they have done is donate a stoller to the DIS and allow members to use it while they are at Disney. It works out great. If the dates are available you arrange for a swap with the person who has it before you and make arrangements to leave it for the person behind you. It was a nice stroller when we did it and it worked out so great not having to lug one around with us on the airplane, or have to take it to the beach with us before we arrived at Disney. Read the sticky post on the Budget Board (hopefully, it will answer all your questions)

My favorite memory of MK (and I've been many, many times) is early in the morning. I let my hubby and son sleep in. I went to MK and simply spent about two hours on Main Street looking at the details...going down "alleys" I would not normally have bothered to go down...looked up and all around...simply amazing what you'll see, hear and smell.

What a great idea!! I think sometimes we get so caught up in all the excitement we forget the little things Walt intended as well

jjtwins - as far as rides for your little ones: Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom is a great place to start. They will probably enjoy the carousel, Dumbo, Peter Pan, Pooh, ...

A little over 10 years ago, we took our oldest son to WDW. He was 2 years and 2 months old at the time. Before we went, we told him we were going to WDW and we were going to see Mickey Mouse. When we got there, we headed straight to Fantasyland. We took him on a ride (can't remember which) and when we got off, we all turned to him and asked him if it was fun and if he liked it. He said "That not Mickey Mouse. Where Mickey Mouse?" We shrugged it off and said "He's around here somewhere. Let's go on another ride." After the next ride, we asked him how he liked it and he said "That not Mickey Mouse. Where Mickey Mouse?" It only took us 2 times to figure out that we needed to get this kid to the Mouse. We asked a CM where we could find and she directed us to what's now called Mickey's Toontown Fair. There was a building where we just had to wait our turn in line and then we got to have a private audience with his majesty. My son was taken aback by the size of the mouse, but we managed to get a picture of him hugging Mickey, while dad stood nearby. Then we could commence with the rides.

I totally agree with all the great ideas I read so far.

About shoes, break in your walking shoes before you go to WDW. My DD (6) and I bought new sneakers and went to the Mall each evening and just walked, and walked, and walked. While we walked she would tell me all about the things she was looking forward to at WDW. When we returned we kept walking and reminisced about our trip and planned our next one. (Going in Feb 2006 with Me, DD,DS, DD, DMIL, DFIL, DBIL, DSIL and DNeice.)

Get your children involved with the planning, it makes the "trip" feeling last sooooooo long.

Relax, Rome wasn't built in a day......you can't see everything at WDW. This is our third trip we just booked and we realized how much we haven't seen yet.

I have used & enjoyed all the tips I read on these posts over the years. Altho, I'm not familiar with making the ressies at CRT. What's that tip? The only thing I know about that is calling in advance & dialing up at 659am..is there a new tip that I don't know about yet?

I'd say the best tip I got was about how to get the Cinderella Slipper dessert. I've never seen it mentioned in a book, only here. I ordered it for my wife when we ate at Citricos this past may and it was fantastic!

I think the best tips are the ones that keep you comfortable:

bring a mini blister kit that has band aids and mole skin in it

the cheap-o rain gear, you'll be the only ones braving the rain while others are staying under covers or running home to their rooms

zip lock bags to put your camera, wallet and other non water proof items in while on water rides

Those ID lanyards also work great for older children that are allowed to go off on their own (so Mom knows they wont lose their very $$$$ park passes, room key, or money)

Try to use the magic hours (if a wdw resort guest) it makes a world of difference, allowing you to do so much more and then having time to rest in the middle of the day

But the biggest tip from this site is to read this site, I've learned so much that I would never have thought about! Do Research! Do ask questions! and Do have fun!

I recommend Bierenbohm's WDW guidebook to new visitors. It's an easy read/reference and not overwhelming.

This website is a wonderful reference!

Have a simple plan of which parks you would like to visit each day. Just remember to be flexible especially if you are taking children.

Remember the funny things that your kids say while at WDW. Our daughter thought "EPCOT" was really called "Cotton"! She also thought Chip and Dale were named "Chip and Dip".

For our princess breakfast in Norway I had secretly packed my daughter's cinderella costume, shoes and tiara for her to wear for when she got to meet the princesses. She was beaming when we told her that morning she was having breakfast with them. She was absolutely thrilled to wear her costume to breakfast.

Something fun to do with the kids - ride in the front of the Monorail with the conductor. We asked one of the attendants as we were boarding at the Contemporary Resort. Probably not a reasonable request to make of the attendants at peak times, but it worked for us! We rode at sunset - the view was wonderful.

If you have children who want to meet the characters, go to Mickey's Toontown Fair in MK right when they open that part of the park. Go right to the area where the characters are. You'll beat the long lines.

Enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of WDW and remember: "It's a vacation!"

Hi there, Ive just signed up for the 1st time on this disc. I am also going to take my 2 1/2 yrs old twin boys this yr in decemeber to wdw for the first time, we are all very excited. I need some tips:
traveling with twins. what rides do you recommend, where to eat ? Also my husband and I would like to go out for dinner to germany, does disney recommend a babysitting service, I am staying @ one of the wdw resorts. thanks

I'd say it was to bring earplugs and mini flashlights for the kids (what a lifesaver!), to have large purchases shipped home, and to have a detailed list of what to do at each park. That way we didn't have to bring the guide books with us and we could pick and choose what we wanted to do. It worked wonders!

Others would be in the "I wish I had done this" department:
*DO NOT OVERPACK!! (we did, and I'm still regretting it!)
*don't bring books for the kids to read since they have the nighttime stories on the TV (we NEVER picked up a single book the whole week!)
*use the one-outfit-per-ziplock bag trick
*don't bring more than one toy per child on the trip -- they're too busy playing at the parks rather than in the room with their toys!

One of the best tips I have is:
On hot days I take a cold washcloth to the parks for a quick pick-me-up. Each night I get an ice bucket full of ice. In the morning it has melted, but the water is still quite chill. If not, add some ice and let it sit. Just before leaving for the park, I soak a washcloth in the chilled water and mostly wring it out. I pack it in a ziplock bag at the bottom of my pack.

During the day when everyone is hot and cranky, we take a chill break. We sit and I break out the cloth. The cool cloth just feels wonderful on hot face and neck.

If you don't want to do the cloth, you can get some of those wipes that come in packets. They have something in them that cools you when the breeze hits you.

Pre-print self adhesive address labels for postcards before you leave home. (Avery Labels or similar). You don't have to take your address book with you and you can always see at a glance who you haven't sent a card to yet.

I even use the same labels again at Christmas
