Whats wrong with MM?

I don't know that there is anything particularly wrong with it, but I know that no one in my family has any desire to go back here. It was the first Disney restaraunt we ever ate in, and we were not impressed at all. I know I did not like what I got, and I LOVE Italian food!! With that said, I don't think HS has any great choices for sit down restaraunts...

IT's not "bad"--it's just not good. It reminds me of Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill--but with a far more limited menu and not as good food. Even the bread isn't up to the standards of those two places. My chicken parm at MM was fair at best--and a very small portion as well.
For just lunch it might be OK....

Yep -- about like Olive Garden but fewer choices. From our perspective, that makes it okay for a 1TS restaurants (there are many worse 1TS restaurants). The quality of 1TS restaurants has declined so dramatically since the advent of the DDP that we generally avoid them. But, if we're at DHS and need lunch, MM is an okay choice. Brown Derby is much better, but for those who use the DDP, I assume they avoid it since it takes 2TS.

I very much agree with this opinion. I've certainly had worse meals than I've had at MM but I've had better as well. We would eat there again for the Fantasmic package but other than that woudn't go out of our way.

Macaroni Grill is better. The bread is delicious and free.

This is the only Italian restaurant I've ever been in that does not give you bread. If you want excellent Italian food on property that would be Il Mulino over at the Swan. They give you a fabulous selection of breads and oil. Homemade pasta, huge portions, everything is excellent.

If you have better Italian food where you are from you are bound to be disappointed. OK food and expensive.

But I wouldn't describe it as "bad". If we couldn't get the Fantasmic! package at the BD then I wouldn't hesitate and book here while I would skip the H&V. Yuck.

I think you have to take with a grain of salt what people post on the boards...remember, it is merely OPINIONS that are posted!! Your likes/dislikes are not the same as others nor are your experiences that color those likes/dislikes. We learned this principle last year when after we read so much bad press on Coral Reef, we almost didn't go but luckly, we did go & it was one of the best meals/experiences we had!!

This year, we too will be trying out Mama Melrose. We may hate it or not but in either case, we won't know until WE try it!!

We ate at MM last year and enjoyed it. It's not the best Italian I've ever had, but there really isn't a lot options in DHS. I've eaten at 50's PT and Sci-Fi so many times, that I needed to find something new.

I agree with the posters that it is not that Mama Melrose's is bad. I ate their once a few years ago and the meal was alright. Its just that I have had much better Italian food here at home for a much lower price. If I am going all the way to WDW, I want to have something that I can't get at home. The food was fresh and warm and our service was okay, but it is not one of my top choices.
