Whats Wrong with Disney?

If I thought there was something "wrong'" with Disney, I wouldn't have just bought DVC last month.

However, they've still got lots of room for improvement. And now I will have a great base of operations for future trips that will be entirely USO or even elsewhere.

But I still live Disney. I want nothing more than to see them succeed.

The things I think are wrong with Disney have nothing to do with the resorts. One thing the wife and I are bummed about with the move to Orlando is we no longer have a reason to stay at a DVC, unless its one of the beach resorts.

upcharging for events as separately ticketed that used to be free,

Which events are they upcharging for separate tickets that used to be free?

The only one I can think of is the Villains event and limiting attendance by charging for tickets can only improve that one.

I find it rather humorous what was left out of the Yahoo article on Universal earlier in this thread:

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, the roller coaster that’s the marquee attraction of Diagon Alley, malfunctioned shortly after reporters climbed aboard. One person attending Wednesday’s media reception said the Gringotts car he and other passengers were riding in suddenly stopped about 22 feet above the ground. They stayed in that position for roughly 45 minutes, until Universal employees rescued passengers one by one with a ladder. (Even so, this person said the ride, other than the glitches, was “lots of fun.”)

Can you imagine the glee of some of these constant Disney critics if a premiere attraction was unveiled at a media event at WDW and the attraction got stuck for 45 minutes and people had to be evacuated one by one with a ladder? They would be mercilessly mocking Disney.

But hey...whats a little double standard when you are trying to hold to a narrative?

You base this on what? I don't know many who would mock Disney if they put a great deal of effort into an attraction and had some bugs to work out prior to it's opening. Ironic that you find humor and perhaps a little joy in this though, isn't it. :cool1:

I posted a link to the entire article, did I not? Did I make a disclaimer to ignore the first paragraph? I didn't think so. I can't believe it took this long for someone to call it out.

One may find this eerily similar to when Bob Iger( I believe) couldn't get his magic band to let him into a room when they started rolling out the system.

I believe the term you are looking for on how you presented that article is: "cherry picking".

Again, if that were to happen at Disney, you would be hyper-critical of it posting how superior Universal is.

I see that even the supreme leaders in innovation over at Universal are prone to problems as well. Who would have thunk it? :confused3

You're going to have that with a never been done state of the art attraction, huh? How is the daily operational situation on the kiddie coaster working out lately?;)

Thank you for proving my point. That is often brought up with delight by people who do not like the whole MM program.

But hey, when THE most innovative, Disney killer attraction malfunctions at a media event where people get stuck for 45 minutes and have to be evacuated, it doesnt even merit a mention.

Imagine that...:rolleyes1

If WDW ever unveils a premiere attraction again, I'll personally give them a lot of leeway in working the bugs out, especially before opening. I'm less forgiving of breakdowns of older neglected attractions, and new attractions that are unfinished when opened to the public (like the new Mermaid ride).

And be sure to report back on the status of Gringott's after it has been in operation for a month. It's not like they ever had issues with the Forbidden Journey attraction/ :rotfl:

But hey, at least Universal FINALLY announced an opening date for Diagon Alley. So there is that. :rolleyes1

I dont know how its going daily, but I can tell you my fast pass for this past Monday was cancelled. Received an email about 8am letting me know my 6pm fast pass was cancelled due to the ride being down, but not to worry, I could replace it with Splash Mtn or Big Thunder...

Can you imagine the crowds come July 8th? :scared1:

Most of which are former Imagineers.

Just a guess, but I'd say there's a good chance that Gringott's will be operating more reliably after a month than Test Track does after 15 years.

I'm disappointed that while Carousel of Progress had some refurbishment last month, when it re opened the last piece, supposedly of today is still hideously dated, especially the clothing and the mention of 'laser discs' and 'hi def'. At least dress them in more modern clothing, not like they are still in the late.1980's.

wow, the thread re-opened... :happytv:

Now where were we?

Oh yeah, Menchies over in CityWalk has Dole Whips. Oh, the horror!!!:scared1: Now people can visit Harry AND get a Dole Whip. Isn't life grand?
