I'm new to this board and have been reading that all ownerships expire in 2042. Is this so. I bought into OKW I thought all ownerships were for 45 yrs. If I buy Beach Club in 2002,will it be a 40 year ownership ?

All DVC ownwership rights end January 31, 2042, regardless of when or where you buy. That was actually set up initially as a 50 year period for OKW as it went on sale in late 1991; and of course it is now only a 40 year period. BCV will likely be subject to the same end date.

So they raise the price of points but your getting less years ? Sometimes I wonder why I'm hooked on Disney.

Disney actually has a longer lease period than similar timeshare lease set ups. Many others are in the 20 or 30 year range.

One of the reasons sometimes cited by people that decide not to purchase is the fact that 40 years is too long a time period.

Nothing is set in stone yet with BCV. There is an outside chance it could be the start of a new DVC-like group and might have a different end date. Just speculation but a possibility to consider.

It is pretty amazing that even though the use time gets shorter the price goes up! Glad I also own Disney stock. ;)

When we first joined in '92, we wondered how long it would be before the price started to drop as the usable time got shorter. We figured the price would have to level off within the first 5 years or so, then start down.

Boy, were we naive!

When I was doing a rudimentary financial analysis of DVC point values over time, it showed that the intrinsic value of points will continue to increase for some time still. The turning point where the value of the points starts declining is not until 6-10 years out from the end depending on your assumptions for inflation, increasing resort prices, and increasing dues. The turning point seems to be directly related to the break-even period which makes sense.

I suspect that the market will start to anticipate this decline and the price will drop several years sooner. After all, why would you commit to ten years of DVC if the savings are minimal. At least now, you can save for many years and even retain some value.

I guess I should not have taken so many math courses...I'm feeling rather geeky.
