What's with the line at Pirates of the Caribbean?

I think the line really depends on who is standing in it. There is some days where the families that push their kids in front of people to make it seem like they got separated or the obnoxious mom that the family is holding hands like a rope and shes trying to weave them past everyone... And then there are days were everyone is ushering everyone around them past and we personally always stop here and there to see if we're separating a family.

How long do you think the wait will be for POTC about 10:00 am last week in June? Just wanted to know if we should get a FP at around that time.

10am should've hardly have a wait at all. It could, but I don't see it being more than a 10-15 min wait that early

I hate when the CMs are saying "fill in all available space", and the family ahead of you doesn't move, so you finally decide to move to fill in space & they glare at you as if you are cutting! I don't know how many times I've had to explain to people what "fill in all avail space" means.

definitely b/c of FP+ I've been to WDW probably 40 times and had only waited for POC once and that was Easter week. Now I find it's always backed up

It's like when a lane ends on a road. Traffic engineers say an ideal situation is that traffic fill both lanes until the merge point and then you zipper-merge. This allows the most amount of traffic to get through in the shortest amount of time. They've tried all manner of signage and design to get people to do this, even with signs saying, "fill both lanes to merge point." But some people move over as soon as they see the "lane ends in 1 mile sign;" others are self-appointed traffic controllers and try to block both lanes so no one can get past them in the ending lane, etc. What is ideal from a people-flow perspective and what is human nature doesn't always connect.

I know that getting pushed back a bit in a ride queue or having people "pass me" will result in an extra wait of about 10 - 25 seconds. So I just don't let it get to me at HM, POTC, and the like. I want to stay hakuna matata.

I think you can thank FP+ for the long waits now, POC was always fairly easy to get on with a minimal wait before it was a FP+ attraction

I agree with these post. In all our trips we've rarely waited more than 5-10 minutes to ride PotC until FP+ was implemented. I have sent my thoughts to guest services about this.

Almost certainly under 20 minutes, maybe more like 10.
There are much higher priority attractions for a fastpass. In the MK, I wouldn't start using FP's that early. Save them for when the crowds arrive.

We just returned from an overall very nice short trip. Easily the worst part of the vacation was waiting in line for pirates of the Caribbean at the MK, for which by the way I've never really experienced any substantial line before in all of my trips there. In short, there is NO semblance of order to this line. The path is broad and, at first assuming there was some order to things, we stood in a near single file manner only to have a cast member say something like "move up to fill in all available space, otherwise those behind you will be more than happy to fill it in for you". He repeated this about 10 times and clearly got a kick out of it. So it was about 45 minutes of people visibly annoyed at each other, trying to inch ahead competitively; groups being separated; some guests aggressively pushing forward with Disney's apparent approval. It felt like trying to get to the bar area at a concert.

Alright, I don't complain about much ever at WDW (honestly) and expect that most won't be able to relate to this (since until this very week I've never experienced anything like it).
this is how I ran over the foot of the person behind me at Everest. I had made the turn she had not so she was so close that her foot was under the back wheel of my ECV. should have heard her complaining to CM who was the one that had told her to move up, as she was behind me and said she was behind me but was run over

I'm with you there! We once moved past a group of people who were too busy looking at their phones and not moving (CM was shouting "everyone move forward and fill in all available space" but these guys totally ignored her). The moment we walked past them the "man" of the group went nuts saying we were cutting the line and how dare we skip ahead. I don't like confrontation but he was red-faced and in full rage. I explained the CM had been telling everyone to move forward and he said "doesn't mean you can skip the line" **sigh***

These kind of queues give me extreme anxiety, really wish they didn't exist. Seems like you can't win either way, you move ahead and you're cutting and if you wait for the families in front of you then the CM's start yelling and people behind you move up.

The one that always gets me is Haunted Mansion, the door opens and it feels like a free for all. Maybe the fact that it is dark makes it seem worse.

That's where you separate the diehards from the casual visitors. Anyone moving directly to where the doors are is clearly "in the know" :)

I've thought of an idea "Disney Listen up"

The thing I find most annoying about that queue is the single queuing bit, then this mad everyone squash up bit followed by back to single queuing.

So as that frightful bit is just after the doors how about a TOT type area.

Right stay with me guys, how about guests stand outside the door then they let a load of people close them again, then have a mini video of John Depp talking about some legend of a secret "el ratón" treasure trove, then after that guest go through the door on the other side that opens on to the rest of the queue.:smickey:

I agree. We used to almost always walk on POTC at WDW. I had not waited in line for more than 5 minutes for it in years until FP+. Now we go to WDW at the same times we used to and the parks themselves don't feel any more crowded, but since FP+ the POTO line is consistently 20 to 45 minutes, sometimes longer.

you move ahead and you're cutting
But you're not. You are following instructions. If instead of saying "fill in all the available space", the CM said "everyone take 5 steps forward", and every person in the waiting area did so except for one lunkhead, the lunkhead can hardly make out a case that everyone who moved 5 steps forward did anything wrong. He was the one who didn't follow the instruction and has no cause to complain. And if he does, you ignore it. In the same vein, the last time we were there, crowds were big enough that the CMs reverted back to the "move all the way down to the end of the row" instruction, whereas in most of our past trips, the instruction was to move 2/3rds the way down the row. Of course, there always has to be some idiot who has to be at the front of the pack when the doors automagically open only to find out that being first is not a good idea. So they plop down in the middle of the row. And I climb over them with my butt in their face. Do I care? Not one little bit. With any luck, I will have had a bean burrito the night before!

I have never experienced chaotic lines at PoC, but in places where there is chaos (TT, HM, ToT), we just hang back to be the last people out of the room (design/stretching/etc.). It only adds minimal time to my wait, and no jostling bodies..
