What's with the Jesus skywriting?

Hey, why don't we discuss the war in Iraq, abortion and gay marriage while we're at it.

You know, throw it all in there and have at it. popcorn::

None of those things are literally being written on the sky at WDW. ;)

Some people find it joyous, some of us find it offensive. It doesn't have to have anything to do with religion.

I just know that when I'm at WDW I don't need other people's religion choices (if I agree with them or not) written on the sky for crying out loud, LOL.

To be honest, it's just tacky. It serves no purpose. I think both people who believe and those who don't could find it equally offensive : someone who truly believes shouldn't need such a crass reminder, and those that don't believe don't want it to intrude on their vacation.

But again, I guess the people in the latter category can just look down at the ground the whole vacation.

You know I looked for hidden Mickey's for 8 days and only found about six. Three of those were on the mural in Rafiki's Planet Watch. I guess that they are really hidden. I did find a hiding Mickey though. He was trying to hide behind this sign.

Come on -- slightly amusing. Not even slightly? Okay, I'll move on.........

We are going down next month and I hope I get to see the skywriting....Maybe while I am pool hopping and drinking out of my refillable mug from last year..... :lmao:

On a previous vacation we saw him write "DON'T REFILL OLD MUGS!" over some of the Disney Resorts.

Here is the proof!

So you like my sky writing skills. :cool1:

I saw the sky writing on Thursday when I went to ride the new Nemo attraction. Since freedom of speech is a privilege in the US, I'm sure if it wasn't ok for the skywriter to this, it would have been stopped a while ago. He's/she's been at it a long time.

I remember when they use to use skywriting to promote Church Street Station. Does it still exist?
No, Church Street Station is long gone. Now it's just Downtown Disney and City Walk battling it out.

It won't bother me..the only time I look up is to see the fireworks, and it'll be dark.
What gets me is the money wasted this way... seems like so much better "good works" could be accomplished with the money for the av-gas this person is buying.
Does anyone really think they are going to get someone to "accept Christ" by writing in the sky???? :confused3

We see him all the time.

We saw it all last weekend. I didn't think anything of it other than what a huge amount of money to express your thoughts, but whatever!

I have to admit I was really shocked at the anger some people have against the Christian religion in the other thread. I was very saddened that some folks have such negative views on Christianity.

If I looked up in the sky and saw "Jesus Loves You" I would smile. I never thought that such a message would cause the opposite affect in so many people. I guess I live a sheltered life, most people I know are Christians (the ones who are not are not offended by my choice in religion), you kind of take it for granted. I would never want my actions as a Christian to cause pain or invoke anger. Christ's life was about serving and loving others, and not about harrasing or being intrusive in the lives of non-believers.

There's lots of things that are legal that are offensive. It would be perfectly legal for someone to skywrite "Hitler was a cool dude" or "drunk driving is fun" above WDW, too - freedom of speech gives pretty wide limits. Naturally, most people who agree with the message will like it, and those who don't agree will ignore or dislike it. Certainly, no one is going to be changed by it.

I'm somewhat offended by it - I know WDW skews Christian but outside of the Candlelight Processional, it's generally pretty secular, which is the way I like it. I'll just file the skywriting evangelists next to the love bugs and the people using flash on PotC and the "don't like my driving? dial 1-800-eat-****" bumper stickers in the "annoying but can't do anything about so not worth getting worked up about" category.

Actually, I'm kind of surprised that Univeral Studios doesn't hire a skywriter to write "Mickey sucks" above WDW. :teeth:

Then you need to spread that word to some of your friends.

I just don't see the point of it. It's not like a non-believer is going to look up and say "Wow, Jesus loves me. I need to convert." :confused3

Does the tag fairy take requests? Because I think this would be a great tag :goodvibes !

On topic... I am Catholic, and I believe whole heartedly in Jesus, & free speech too - however, I don't think I'm too much of an enigma ;) .

Personally, (just my own feeling) I am never offended when I see public love for God (as Jesus, Allah, Divine Being, Higher Power... whatever your word for God may be).

But let's concentrate on our common ground, we all love Disney & enjoy these boards because we can discuss something we all love together. While it's okay to disagree, I hope we can still be respectful of the feelings on BOTH sides of all issues. Nothing says "lock this thread" faster than intolerance. And intolerance is very ugly (not to mention un-Disney...Small World people......Small World).
