Whats With Disney's New Buns?

This is in relation to a change that happened about a year ago. Disney no longer serves white bread buns in its CS restaurants. They now use some sort of wheat bun. If you have not been to WDW in the past year or so you probably haven't experienced the "new" buns.

I doubt the change is due only to health reasons. If they were so worried about health, why only offer a DOUBLE cheeseburger? How about keep the white bun and just put one burger on it? You tell me which option is healthier.

I had the BBQ at CR's with the dissentigrating bun.

Personally I would like to chunk the wheat buns, carrot sticksand the plain chicken they jam down the kids menus out the windows.

Add me to the list of people who HATE these new buns. I like whole wheat bread. If this were my only experience with whole wheat bread I'd never try it again. They can do better!

1. Don't give them any ideas!
2. With all of this talk about cheeseburgers, I may have to stop-off for an Angusburger on the way home-this forum may be hazardous to your health!

Honestly, the new buns don't bother me at all.But I guess since I have not eaten white bread in like 7 yrs, it probably wouldn't. I am used to the dry multigrain or wheat, and I actually like them.:confused3 Different strokes for different folks I guess

I eat wheat buns and like them. The issue here is that they disintegrate on contact. I am surprised they can put together the sandwich and have the bun in one piece when they hand it to you. The taste is also an issue, they are disgusting tasting. If they were just dry I could understand it but they are like nothing I have ever experienced. You have to experience these buns in order to
understand how bad they are.Sort of like Stiche's Great Escape or a certain Soda at the tasting station in Epcot. I am not saying you haven't tried the buns, I don't know if you have. pixiedust: this icon reminds me of what happens to the buns when touched by human hands.

I have tried the new buns and did not have the issue of them disintegrating:confused3

Like most people, I try to make the best choices in my everyday life when choosing what to eat. There is always a fine balance of finding healthy foods that taste good. I do my best everyday to nourish my body. I get why Disney feels the need to improve the healthfulness of their food offerings. They think that's what we want. BUT, when I am on vacation I do like to enjoy my foods more than in my everyday life. I mean, at home I am perfectly content eating a dinner of grilled chicken or fish with brown rice and lots of veggies. But at Disney, I would never choose that meal! I get there one week a year on average, so I like to enjoy myself. Will it really matter to my overall health if my sandwich bun is made from whole grains, enriched white flour, or some other unknown substance, and I only eat that bun 2 times per year? No! On vacation, my primary want is for it to TASTE GOOD. There is no secondary want. Taste is it. I hope they fix this, whether they go with a better whole grain bun, back to white buns, or whatever. Just fix it!

I couldn't put it better! I've never gone on vacation to watch my diet!

Sorry, but when I read the post I was thinking "why would someone ask about Walt's heiney?" Is it Friday yet???

We had burgers at Cap'n Cooks (Poly CS) last week and the buns were fine. They may have been wheat, but they didn't fall apart at all. They were pretty good actually. Maybe the resorts don't have to use the nasty buns?

Not all places are using the buns yet. I have encountered them at the Magic Kingdom. Maybe they will do away with them or have. I hope maybe they have come to their senses.

...I went to Pecos Bills(however you spell that) and the place across the street from it to get one of those awesome Chicken sandwiches my wife loves them and I watched her eat one last trip and wanted one this time...

What is the place across the street with the awesome chicken sandwiches? OMG, how did I miss this?;)

I believe it is the Golden Oak Outpost directly across from the back door of Pecos Bill's. It might have been the old McDonalds french fry place. My wife used to love the chicken sandwich but has vowed never to have another one as long as they use the new buns.

Okay, the buns are only partly the reason why I'll never eat another chicken sandwich there. I also found a bone in it, and it was supposed to be boneless. That kind of ruined it for me. (And the chicken was so, so much better when I ate there in May!)

Oh, and I forgot to add that the buns at MK have changed since we were there at the end of May/beginning of June. They used to be good, now they break up into a million pieces.

I have no problem with whole wheat, although I would like a choice, but there's no reason for them to fall apart like this!

I like whole wheat but prefer my sammich to stay intact while I eat it.... I make mine messy enough to start with without the bun falling apart under the "pressure"....

Oh, Disney powers that be: I'm on vacation give me the junk or prepared to be bunned.

As I have not eaten bun-containing foods in WDW since December 2007, I can't state an opinion.
But to all of you that are disappointed, dissatisfied, just plain mad, why don't you write an email to Disney? It's worth a try and I for one would love to see the responses that you get back.
ETA: Not trying to be a kill-joy - if your food doesn't taste good while on vacation and paying top-dollar for it, I can totally understand the upset feelings. I'm not saying you're not entitled to your opinions and that they shouldn't be voiced, but maybe some extra voicing to TPTB might help you out too? :)

It's not that they fall apart that bothers me, they have an icky taste and they're dry!!!

I can honestly say that it makes me not want to eat at CS locations that only serve burgers and hot dogs because I know I'll only order fries if I do eat there. It sucks, I'm a burger and hot dog kind of gal too so it's disappointing to say the least.
