What's WISHES?

"Wishes" is a new fireworks extravaganza that will replace the long-running "Fantasy in the Sky" Fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom.

The show is set to debut October 9th 2003. Here are a few details that have been floating around...

There will be around 800 shells per show, compared to 300 for the current Fantasy in the Sky. Pyrotechnics will be launched from 10 new locations around the MK. The theme song is based on the kid's rhyme, Starlight, Starbright. Show length is 12 minutes, up from 7 minutes for Fantasy in the Sky. Story elements include, Ariel wishing to be on land, Aladdin wishing on the lamp, Pinocchio wishing to be a boy. Jiminy Cricket is the show narrator

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The power of a wish combines with magical moments from cherished Disney films and dazzling pyrotechnic effects to create "Wishes," a new story-in-the-sky fireworks spectacular debuting October 2003 at Walt Disney World Resort.

Narrated by Jiminy Cricket, who memorably served as Pinocchio's conscience in Disney's animated masterpiece, the new Magic Kingdom show tells a thrilling, heart-tugging story about making wishes come true.

"I bet a lot of you folks don't believe that -- about a wish coming true, do ya?" Jiminy says as "Wishes" begins. "Well, I didn't either. Of course, I'm just a cricket, but let me tell ya what changed my mind. Ya see, the most fantastic, magical things can happen -- and it all starts with a wish!"

At several times the size of "Fantasy in the Sky," Magic Kingdom's previous fireworks show, "Wishes" is the biggest, boldest pyrotechnic display ever staged in the theme park that celebrates fantasy and the fantastic.

The 12-minute spectacle takes guests through treasured tales of adventure and romance from classic Disney films, accompanied by brilliant bursts of color and light above -- and around -- Cinderella Castle.

" 'Wishes' takes us into the heart of Disney storytelling and shows us that wishes can come true if you believe in them with all your heart," said Steven Davison of Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, who created "Wishes" and Disneyland's popular "Believe... There's Magic in the Stars" fireworks spectacular.

"The goal of the show is to move guests in a very special way, to fill them with a magic only Disney can create and, most of all, to give everyone a magical memory to treasure for a lifetime."

The story of "Wishes" blends classic Disney songs and character voices with pyrotechnic effects never seen before in a Disney theme park, including several new sites for launching fireworks that create moments both breathtaking and intimate.

Sounds Cool!!!

Where's the best spot to hear the Narration?

And will they be doing "Wishes" at MVMCP? or a different fireworks show?
Thanks! Now I have something else to look forward to in WDW... Like I needed it :bounce: ~LOL~

Wishes is scheduled to begin October 9th. I'm sure there will be lots of information about the details of the show posted here in the days following the premiere.

Historically, MVMCP & MNSSHP have their own unique firework shows (which are a twist on Fantasy in the Sky fireworks)...I guess we'll have to wait and see what they do this year.

WendyCFG: The Disney sound system is amazing, and I'm sure you'll be able to hear the narration from anywhere in the park!

When we were at MK one very rainy, stormy night in July, they announced that the parade was canceled, and it sounded like there were speakers everywhere!

i booked a fireworks cruise on the 9th. do you think this is a good idea or will i have trouble hearing the show. maybe it would be better to go into the park for it.

the beach of the Polynesian? I've heard that the music is piped in to various remote locations (the Concierge lounge, the California Grill, etc.) does that count the Polynesian beach and do you think the narration will be included? Thanks I'm so excited about getting to see this!!

Have more than one evening free? See it again from inside the park if you were on a cruise or at the Polynesian the first time. Will it be on every night the park is regularly open?

Not to be confused with the options that come with some Disney resort packages (choose any one from this list: horseback riding, T-shirt, photograph with Mickey Mouse, etc, choose any two, choose any two each day, etc). These are sometimes called "wishes". Water park admissions that come with some hopper passes are sometimes called "plusses", not "wishes".

Most of the music and announcements for parades comes from the same Disney sound system, stationary speakers -- on buildings, in lampposts, even in what look like rocks in landscaped areas. At the beginning and end of the parade you can hear the first/last sections of the script repeat in the neighboring section of the parade route.
