I've been reading for months, different things about......

"The Soda"

Some say, Buy The Mug.....Others say, Travel Up To Deck 9.....or Bring Your Own...

So What's The Story With The Soda lately?

Any Recent Cruisers want to chime in?

The unlimited soda package is no more. You can still buy a mug for $3.00 but it does not give you free refills. You get free soda at all restaurants and the beverage station on deck 9, but you will pay at lounges.

....The fountains are on deck 9 towards the back of the ship.
You can either serve yourself with disposable cups or buy and fill up the mugs for that extra caffein hit.
There's even coffe,milk and super sweet fruit juices that keep you from ever falling asleep...

you are just like me when i was going on my first disney cruise last fall. I wanted to save as much as I could on alcohol and drinks to save $$$ for souveneirs.

The cups they give you at the drink stations are very small so I would definitely bring a bigger mug or cup. The nice thing about a mug is that it has a lid on it. You can find mugs of all sizes from $1-5 at walmart or dollar general type stores...we really liked ours and used it alot. My husband is a Dr. Pepper addict and alas, there is none on the ship. He was okay without it for a few days (although divorce was looking appealing when he was going thru the caffiene withdrawals ) but i would not chance a 7 day cruise without it. If you cannot live without a certain sode make sure you bring a case or two with you.

We just bought one of those rolling soft coolers at Sams and they had something else I thought might work for you, esp about the cooler question you posted on another thread. They had a soft sided cooler that was $10 and looked pretty much like a beach bag with a zipper on top. The brand was California something...I bought one at walmart last year for about the same price. The thing is it doesn't look like a traditional cooler and that could very well be brought anywhere on the ship without looking "cheap". I know you were worried about that one! If anyone saw you carrying it they would think you had a towel and swimsuit in it instead of drinks!


I just thought this might help...I also purchased really inexpensive snorkel gear and floats from walmart. Since you are in a big group I thought you could share and it would be way cheaper than renting them on castaway cay.

The cups are small but they do provide lids. It was very convenient.

I had read how the cups were small after the changover to include cokes at the drink station, and then went on the wonder in January and the cups were at least 12 oz. , and you could even put a sipping lid, a la hot drinks, ontothe cup (in rough seas, it mattered as we crossed the gulfstream). Sure, the cups weren't huge, but they weren't so small as to be a problem, like if they were the typical size of a cup at a kids birthday party. Or am I the only one who isn't used to Super Big Gulp sized beverages (I have an 8 minute, sometimes less, drive to work, so I don't need a big commuter drink like many others)?

Logan...you are right on target....I also think the cups a suitable size, though I like tons of ice in mine so I do bring a larger container with me...just so I can fill most of the cup with ice and still get the same amount of soda that the DCL cups hold.

My wife is a huge Diet Coke driker. I will bringing on a case to ensure a happy cruise for her, and therefore for me.

Do you know does the Soda station provide for Soda Water? I'm off soda, but still need to bubbles.

Is it Spring anywhere? New England is a wet mess.

She's a Can fanatic and doesn't like the fountain soda kind. She also drinks it in the morning versus coffee.

The cups are an okay size if you are at the pool and can get refills of whatever while you are there but if you are staying on a lower deck or going to the movie theater it is extremely inconvenient to go back and forth to the drink station....a large mug helps reduce the number of trips and esp with lots of kids they need to stay hydrated thoughout the cruise (plus they all want sips of whatever mom and dad have ) You have 4 kids take a "sip" from a 12 ounce cup and the drink is gone!

You are right that the cups are the perfect size for coffee and milk. You know I find it funny that milk, ice cream and fruit are all free but if you have them blend it into a smoothie it is almost $4 My husband bought me a very small blender that we will be taking on this cruise to make the kids special smoothies in our room to have with room service (cookies and ) as a special treat instead of spending $4 each. Of course we have 4 kids that each want what everyone else is having so smoothies added up to be too much last cruise...

Sound like me, on the way to work I stop in and get my 64oz jug filled up, even when it was in the low 30's, or when I have 6 of them a day druing the 115 + days here in AZ, I just have to have my soda.
Do you think they will yell to much if I bring my 64oz jug with me on the cruise
and fill it up at the deck 9 fountain.

Question: My mother drank a TON of Rum and Diet Coke's on the cruise. I told her next year when we go - she should buy the $12 duty free bottle of Rum on the ship and mix it with FREE diet coke instead of paying the money for the mixed drink from the bar. My thought was - who cares if she doesn't finish the whole bottle (which I am willing to bet she could! ) For $12, it would be worth it! Thoughts?

I'd say definitely yes!

the duty free alcohol you buy on board is not given to you until late the last night so that would not work....plenty of people buy rum near the port or bring it from home...you are right about saving alot of $$$ this way....I prefer the frozen fru fru drinks and the bother involved in bringing the rum with me for about a $1 difference per drink really isn't worth it for me but it may be for some. My husband likes Jack Daniels and Coke so we did bring our own small bottles of that and it worked perfectly....We brought a couple of the flask size bottles because they would easily fit inside my beach bag that i carried everywhere and were a little less noticeable than lugging a big bottle of alcohol around....

re the posting that explains how an ordinarily suitable sized cup becomes too small when used by the poster's 4 children...I can barely handle one, have no idea how my mother ever handled 3 (answer--she didn't handle it well, but the three of us are doing well with our therapists)...so I defer to someone with 4 as to what works and what doesn't. I am not only spoiled to have an easy commute, but my one child is terrific so I count my blessings.

For those who make a point of saying that someone drinks diet coke in the morning--c'mon down to Atlanta, where diet coke is on the breakfast menu. I lived in CT until age 25, got the diet coke habit in college, never drank a cup of coffee in my life, and used to get the funniest looks at work when I'd be drinking a can or even liter bottle of diet coke at a morning meeting. Knew I'd found home when I moved south and found the evil elixer to which I am addicted readily available in the a.m.

Another reason I like deck 7--proximity to the beverage station...
