What's up with the beds @ OKW?

What I've never understood is "what's UP with the beds at OKW?" I mean, like way up high? I practically need a step stool to get into it. And sitting on the edge of the bed-forget it! I've never figured out why they have to be like that.

That's my only complaint about the beds at OKW...they're way too high. I'm only 5' - I feel like I'm climbing a mountain to get in bed. :rotfl:But, once I'm up there, I find the beds extremely comfortable. Add me to the list of those who like hard beds.

When we check in, I request 2 egg crate mattress pads and put them together, back to back and re-make the bed with the pads. I'd never make it without them!

Didn't even know they had egg crate pads to request.

I've never had a bad bed at any DVC resort.

My son did note that he did not like the sleeper sofa at OKW this last trip because it was too hard - the foam pad (memory foam) was rather thin. This is identical to the ones at SSR. He did like the one at BCV (which is the one where the cushions do not detach and just flip under the bed when you open up the bed.

But I will say, ALL the sleeper sofas are hard as rocks and itchy as everything to sit on when they are folded up. The old one with the bars under your back and the lumpy mattresses were much more comfortable to sit on.

I know that cruise lines have egg crates I actually have them on our bed at home, love the comfort :)

When you request the EC do they put it onto the bed or do I need to do it??

So far, they've just delivered them to our room and I took it from there. I suppose that if I reqested them ahead of time (before our arrival) they would probably be put on the bed for us. I'd rather do it myself because if housekeeping did it, they would most probably put them on side by side to cover the whole bed. My husband is happy with the bed as it is so I double the pads under my side of the bed. The bed looks a little lopsided, but who caers as long as I can sleep. :)

We were just at OKW a couple of weeks ago and I gotta add my two cents about the mattresses...hokey smokes!...hard as rocks. Not to pick on OKW, as it is our second favorite to our home at VWL. VWL mattresses, by the way, just about match OKW.

Does anyone else worry that with all the building and selling of new DVC that our homes may not be kept up (i.e. good mattresses, etc) as well as they should? Yes, I know our dues should cover our particular home, but I have noticed a slight decline in the DVC's as they age.

Add me to the list of "those who love those rock hard mattresses at OKW". I have a bad back and sleeping on that mattress does wonders to relieve the pain.
