Southwest just released their flights through May (Well, not too long ago) and they are OUTRAGEOUS!!

It's a few days in and either the Wanna get away fares are sold out or unavailable or over $400 one way!! I can usually fly for under $400 TOTAL!!

Is this normal? I mean, I religiously fly SW and I've NEVER seen anything like this. I don't know if I should gamble that they will go down or think about canceling trips. And I don't know if I should book at these high prices now or risk getting shut out of flights completely (I fly enough that I'm okay with rebooking and getting credits, unless this is an anomaly because with prices this high I might have too much in credit).

I know prices have been steadily going up, and I was prepared to pay more because I know I'm going at busy times, but this is crazy!

Prices will probably go up and down. The rates that they show right after release are not necessarily their best rates. In fact, I was just able to snag RT PHL<->MCO for $88 (plus 9/11 fee) for mid-December earlier this week. Don't give up hope and just keep watching. Having a little bit of flexibility will also help. My flights depart for MCO at 5:30 in the morning and arrive back in PHL at 1 AM!

Woo Hoo! Thanks for reminding me to check on the flight I booked in September, I just saved $132! My flight $$ went down for both segments!

I missed a deal from dtw to mco for march 5th to march 11 for 5 people 1200 bucks.

I ended up paying 1700 from spirit.

I'm not seeing those high fares. Traveling from Islip to Fort Lauderdale in May non-stop for $129.

Hmmm...I'm flying from Islip. Maybe it's worth flying into another airport and renting a car.

I do wonder if it's a glitch to as some days didn't even have Wanna Get Away fairs listed - like the column wasn't even there!!

I checked flights for May and thought they weren't too bad out of Buffalo. Booked mine already.

Our flights are high out of Sacramento down to SNA (John Wayne/Orange County) for our March Disneyland trip. But, we're flying on Fri and Sun, the two most expensive days to fly. I can do LAX instead for almost half the price, but it's just not as convenient :(
I'm trying to rack up some more points so it's not all out of pocket. Good luck!

A similar thing happened in August when the March flights became available. The prices were sky high or else it said unavailable. I ended up booking about 2 weeks after the dates opened up and got reasonable prices. I did have to book my trip to depart 1 day earlier and return 1 day earlier. It's not ideal but I paid $230 RT instead of $400 RT.

At the time I was thinking that SW was only showing the higher fares in the hope that people would bite. The fares are still really high for the actual dates that I wanted to travel.

I found the same exact thing, I was wondering if there was a reason for the high fares the first weekend of May. i don't know of any reason....

On the flip side of things going down, when the fall 2015 fares went on sale back in April(ish), within the first two hours, I booked 3 tix from DAL->MCO. I have checked fairly frequently since then, and the prices did nothing but either stay the same or go up. :(
