What's up with all the "rude servers" comments for the Pepper Market?

I've recently read many, many comments and reviews about rude service at the Pepper Market. I've read them here, on allearsnet.com, and even on tripadvisor.

What the heck is going on? Are the servers there really that rude? Anyone else have rude service there?:confused3

I read a post somewhere that said the Pepper Market is staffed by an outside company, which would explain why they don't have the same "warm & fuzzie" CM's that the rest of Disney tends to have.

We stayed at CSR in Nov and had a wonderful stay!!

One night, after returning to the hotel, we decided to go grab a quick bite to eat. While the cooking staff weren't really rude, they weren't very helpful either. Now, we did get there about 15-20 minutes before they were closing, so we just thought they were ready to close, so they weren't overly-nice. But when we went to check out, one of the workers rather rudely told us they were closing and we could not eat at any of the tables. I just told her we were taking our food back to the room - hence the "to go" boxes.

We usually eat in the parks anyway, so we didn't go back. But everyone else was so nice and helpful, we'd definitely return to CSR!!!

We were there in October, the service was fine not brilliant but not rude either. I would think the most noticeable thing is that as well as a serve yourself meal at quiet times it can be difficult to find a server on each area of the service stands. I can understand that this can be annoying if you are in a rush. The main point of complaint from our point of view is that you are automatically charged for service when in fact it is basically a self-service restaurant.

We were at CSR last Sept/Oct. The resort itself was fine, but I did find the people at PM to range between general apathy to outright rudeness. Not such a Happy Place IMHO!!

When we stayed at CSR, we decided to try PM for breakfast one morning. We found the people preparing/serving the food to be generally grouchy. The wait staff was completely indifferent to our presence. I had to get up from our table and walk over to get the attention of someone just to get a cup of coffee.

We were singularly unimpressed with the food and service and didn't return, even though we had unused CS meals on our DDP. Breakfast in our room was far more pleasant.

We love the PM! Think it's the best CS on property.

The cooks have been nothing but helpful to us- letting us sample foods and exaplaining what's in all the dishes. The waitors don't really do a heck of a lot, but that's okay. We already have our food so there's not much for them to do. They refill drinks and if they take awhile then you can go ahead and refill your own. With the DDP the service is included so it's nothing extra. We also like all the dessert choices at the bakery.

Admitedly this was a few years ago, but after three unpleasant experiences with PM employees during the same trip I decided that wild horses couldn't drag me back into that place. It's kind of sad too as I otherwise liked CSR and would consider staying there again if it wasn't for the employees at the PM.

Note I don't refer to them as Cast Members as they are not Disney employees. In my opinion it shows!

The server we had was rude or anything, just scatterbrained and apathetic. I can understand, I would hate having that job. Most of the customers just seem annoyed at having to pay a server at a CS, and when I was there our server had a lot of tables, while she wasn't doing a lot of work for each individual table, she was doing quite a bit of work collectively.

I'd put that job up there with being an attendant in a washroom.

That's really too bad. It must be a very negative work environment there for the servers to be so grumpy all the time.

I wonder what the employee turnover rate is there if everyone is so unhappy?

Or maybe Pepper Market management just doesn't care whether their employees are cordial and friendly or not, as long as they show up for work and do their jobs.? I can't imagine this being the case at any restaurant, but since it seems to be an ongoing problem, maybe the manager really doesn't care?

My husband and I were there last Fall and had wonderful service. It was the best counter service we had the whole trip.

We have stayed at CSR six times (soon to be seven) and have dined at Pepper Market every trip at least once or twice per trip. Although they are not "Disney employees", there is no excuse for the staff being rude. We've had some not very "friendly" servers, but none have ever been outright rude. We refuse to let it ruin our vacation and just ignore them.

We're going to be staying there in December for the first time, and we were actually really looking forward to eating at the Pepper Market until we started reading all the negative comments about the employees there.

I guess if we go in expecting rude or apathetic staff, and that's what we get, we won't be caught off-guard, but if we actually get friendly staff, we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Really though, something should be done about it. There's no reason for service without a smile. I mean, geesh, they're in the service industry for goodness sake (and at WDW no less)!!!
