What's up with airfare from Detroit to Orlando

I've been checking almost daily on airfare from DTW to MCO and the price has not dropped below $230 for almost 6 months now.

I now have plan A and plan B. If rates don't go down then we're going to drive, if they do we are going to fly.

I sure hope airfare becomes reasonable soon because I really really want to fly.

Anybody got any great rates coming out of DTW for travel in JUly???

I guess it all depends on how many people are going. $230 from Detroit does not sound like a bad deal to me. I paid $260 from Grand Rapids for July and that was a good price in my mind for rates lately. I have paid as low as $180 but that was a long time ago.

You can always plan a driving trip and keep an eye on airfare. You may also want to look out of Flint. I know it's an extra hour drive but they have had some deals out of Flint lately.

That's exactly what we have done. I have the drive all planned out; however, if we can find a great deal on airfare we want to jump on it.

I guess we lucked up because a couple of years ago, we paid $130 roundtrip from DTW. We went in August and I think rates went down around May sometime.

Well I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Did you try Spirit Airlines? Looks like they are around $200RT which includes taxes and fees....

We managed to get a reduced "promo" rate on NW for our June trip-- $190.50 per person. These were purchased in October 2003! We've been watching the flights, too. Unfortunately, what you are seeing is about what we've been witnessing. The NW flight we are taking (Nonstop early a.m.) is and has been running between $244 and $280! Even Spirit, which usually can be booked for under $200 hasn't had any bargains. SWA ran a special rate a week or so ago--unfortunately, the rates for DTW weren't very good--$99 one way. Further, the times were terrible AND the promo rate was sold out for the departure dates we tried to select.

I'm thankful we were able to get the reduced rate very early. There sure hasn't been much since. :scratchin

I got in the $200 range on SWA for July out of DTW to MCO.

I really do believe that with the price of jet fuel going up and the fact that the planes are FULL already that there is no need for the airlines to discount fares any more.

$99 one way is about the cheapest you are going to find out of DTW.

If you've got a little flexibility, it may be possible to get cheaper flights out of a nearby* airport.

In addition to DTW, check FNT (Flint), LAN (Lansing), TOL (Toledo), AZO (Kalamazoo), GRR (Grand Rapids), and maybe even CMH (Columbus OH), CLE (Cleveland), or CIN (Cincinatti). BUF (Buffalo NY) isn't too far of a drive.

* Yes, I realize not all of these would be considered "nearby", espicially Buffalo, but when compared with a drive from Detroit to Orlando, all are a much easier drive)

We bought our airfare for our honeymoon back in December for this trip (9 days) but it was MUCH cheaper than I believe they are showing now (we paid about $300 Total for both of us). We are flying Spirit. NWA was VERY expensive and delta I think was the second cheapest at the time. I usually look for NWA since they have the most flights - but this time spirit was by far the cheapest - everything else at that time would have been over $200 a person

I'm glad to know it's not just me. I just wanted to make sure Iwas leaving no stone unturned.

Well it just looks like either we'll be driving or we'll just have to bite the bullet and purchase some tickets.

Well if I see anything I will definitely post it here.

Thanks you guys.
