whats the worst thing that happened on a dcl cruise

Got a weird rash off a plant on the bike path on castaway cay in 2010. The lady at the medical center on the island had "never seen that before."
A little hydrocortisone and I was good to go enjoy the rest of my cruise. On our next cruise there were"don't touch the plants" signs all over the path and the foliage was cut way back from the trail.

Getting off the ship each cruise is far worse than that, though!

Another very strong vote for having to actually get off the ship being the worst, and in fact, the ONLY downside to the entire amazing cruise.

Got abandoned by our ferryboat Cap on St John, the excursion people made it right. Not DCL fault.

After we got back on St Thomas, it was kinda funny.

Luckily for us nothing bad happened on our Alaska cruise last Summer. I feel very lucky to be in good health. Every time I visit the children's hospital I see families that have serious problems.

The worst thing to happen for others is probably dying like David Frost did. Getting severely injured would probably also rank up there. Also that Hurricane Sandy cruise was probably not too much fun.

Ours was on a excursion in Madeira on the EBTA this past May. I believe it was a result of some people not reading the description/activity level of an excursion and Disney's inability to tell a customer no. This excursion was listed as active, it included quite a bit of walking over uneven surfaces and hills. It was also a small group excursion. We had a number older folks including a few with walkers. Yes, on an active excursion. Not only did they loudly complain during the whole excursion, they were also extremely rude and outright mean to the guide and driver. They were the epitome of the "ugly american". :sad2: Not an enjoyable excursion at all and truly reinforced why I rarely take cruise line excursions.

Thanksgiving cruise 2005 (on the Magic)......

I got a HORRENDOUS case of motion sickness. Our family had done 3 previous Disney cruises, and I'd NEVER had the problem before. (I even reassured people on the DISboards...."I've yet to ever experience motion sickness.") However, this cruise was different. It was right after we'd left Port Canaveral. I thought it was my imagination, and I almost didn't make it to dinner. (Ship was rocking something terrible.) And others were having the same issue. We were in Animator's Palate, and after placing my order, I thought about leaving. I couldn't. I WAS NOT going to miss the light show. Then, I started feeling REALLY sick. Our tablemate's teenage daughter was the first to say..."Mom, I can't take this, I'm leaving." That was my cue. I told my husband "I'm out of here too." Fortunately, our stateroom was close. As I was walking down the hallway, another cruiser saw me and laughed..."I think you and I are the only ones able to WALK right now.' I was so happy to get back to our room, in BED (after throwing up in the bathroom.)

Fast forward two hours later. I felt somewhat better, and ordered room service. DH and DD got back to the room, and said about 80% of the people left the MDR not long after I did. DD said.."I felt so sorry for Sorcerer Mickey. There was hardly anyone there to see him.":sad2: DH also said that even the bars were empty. Bartenders told him "everyone's back in their rooms."

Fortunately, everyone was fine the next day (docked at CC. It was a double-dip.)

Oh, I also wore the patch the remainder of the cruise. I'd never worn one until then, but always took them with me "just in case." I'm never without it now.:thumbsup2

They made me leave the ship!

I lost my camera while in the jet ski excursion at CC. :worried:

I would have been hard pressed to keep my mouth shut!

On the last night of our cruise while packing, DH discovered all but 3 of his blood pressure meds were missing. He carries his meds in a travel case and had about 20 of them as we were going to WDW for a week after the cruise. We assume (and still do) that the room steward may have knocked it off the shelf or it fell off while he was in the room and it spilled as the case was cracked. DH is always good about putting it out of the way. We couldnt find any of the pills anywhere and called the front desk even though we knew there was nothing they could do. They transferred him to the nurse who basically said tough luck. She couldnt have been any *****ier. I was out in the hall and ran into the room steward and asked him if the med case had fallen. He couldn't get away from me fast enough. I wasnt accusing him we just wanted to know what happened. He wouldnt answer and said he had another room waiting for him. Whatever. Blood pressure meds aren't like street drugs so we doubt if anyone took them.

Once we got to WDW, we contacted our nephew and had him overnight DH some more meds since he had some still at home. The resort was wonderful and told us they would take DH to a pharmacy if we could get a hold of the physician to call in a script. But overnighting worked easier.

We knew the cruise staff probably couldn't do anything after the fact but their dismissal of the whole problem just annoyed us. My DH needs his meds; we weren't being over dramatic (as the nurse basically told DH he was being). A week in WDW without his BP meds would not have been pretty.

We weren't able to dock at Castaway Cay because of unusually strong currents. If that was my worst experience I can't really complain. :)

I really only enjoyed about 50% of our last/first cruise but am determined so we are going again.

I'm in the same boat - we just got off the Fantasy 2 weeks ago and I didn't really enjoy it at all, but my family LOVED it so we've booked a BTB in January. I'm hoping to have a much better time this time and I'm going to force myself to enjoy it! ;)

For us, the worst time was probably Costa Maya. DH "heard" me tell him that we didn't need to bring money ashore and only brought about $40 cash (I still maintain that I never said anything like that). Fast forward to an hour later when we'd spent all but $11 on a shuttle to the beach and entrance to a beach club. The guy who sold us the tickets SWORE that the shuttle would drop us off right at the club but it dropped us off a full 2 miles away, so we had to walk there (with our 3 small kids) in 100 degree heat. Once we got there we found out that they don't take credit cards (cash only) so we couldn't buy any food or drinks; we didn't even have water because I'd asked him to pack water and he packed ONE tiny bottle for five people. I ended up sitting on the beach crying while the kids played in the water a bit and endless people came by and tried to sell me stuff, DH walked around and tried to find somewhere where we could buy water with a credit card but couldn't find anywhere. We had just enough money to take a cab back to the ship (it was $10, so we had $1 left over) and when we got back to that little area by the port with the shops we tried to buy some water and their credit card machines weren't working! What a terrible day! We laugh about it now, but on our January cruises I've insisted that we book only DCL beach days and I made sure I packed the excursion bags for the rest of the cruise.

I guess the worst was in 2008 when we sailed during Tropical Storm Faye. We couldn't dock back in Port Canaveral, had to dock in Port Everglades then be bussed back to Canaveral. Because we had early seating for dinner we had to be at breakfast at 4:30 in the morning and off the ship by 7:00. Then it was a 3 hour bus ride north. Getting my kids up at 4:00 am for breakfast was not fun. The bus ride was not fun although Disney was very organized and was able to keep my family of 13 together on the same bus. So if that was the worst I ever experience on DCL, that's fine with me.

One time DW got sick and we spent most of the day in the room. We ordered room service, DW ordered the Chicken Soup, it was so salty that it tasted like it was made with sea water.

OP, in answering your question about the worst thing that can happen?
The ship sinks.

On our last cruise, we had dinner at Remy on the dream. It was wonderful! It was a great experience and the food was just amazing! After dinner we had a drink and mostly relaxed before bed. About 10 min after laying down to sleep, I suddenly felt nauseous and ran to the bathroom and threw up! I'd been fine all night, and I don't think there was anything wrong with the food, and hadn't had too much to drink, and felt fine immediately after. Very strange. I came out of the bathroom and DH says, 'did you just throw up $250 worth of truffles?!' 'Uh, yeah.' He wasn't really too concerned about me, but annoyed that I'd 'wasted' such a good dinner! I guess if that's the worst that's happened, I'm okay.

Oh I so feel your pain. Sitting on the beach crying...that was me but in the jungle next to the beach. And on the ship and so on. LOL. We laugh too but man!! My kids only remember the good parts though! I guess that's good. I wish I could.
