When I was a newlywed, I wanted to cook pinto beans from scratch. Well, I didn't wash them or soak them and I put the whole bag in a pot that wasn't nearly big enough. They cooked and cooked and I kept adding water, THEY TURNED PURPLE! My DH came home and looked at them and laughed, he said anybody that ate those would be an atomic bomb waiting to happen. I had to throw the beans, pot and all, away, boy I learned my lesson.

I burned pepper on the stove and I thought we were all going to die.

Misread directions, didn't notice. Pumpkin pie calls for 1 cup of sugar, not salt. ;) :faint:

Never made any ;)

My mom's cousin was making a roast once and didn't have any tinfoil so she used saran wrap :rotfl:

I can't even begin to imagine why anyone would choose to eat, much less cook pinto beans, lol.

I did the typical newlywed stupid thing of leaving the bag of guts in the turkey. I absolutely still love the commercial that comes on every year near Thanksgiving of the woman on the phone saying, "I stick my what in the what what?"

DH was cooking once for his ex-finace and was trying to make an elaborate Italian dish. It called for 1 clove of fresh garlic, not knowing what a clove was he used the whole bulb!!! She must have been a vampire because they broke up shortly after.

When we were first married (twenty-five years ago this April), we literally did not have a pot to piss in. No cookware, only a crockpot. I tried to boil spaghetti noodles in the crockpot. I figured if the water got hot enough, the noodles would cook. They don't. They melt. We had sauce and bread for dinner that night. :rotfl:

Years ago when I was first married, It was Thanksgiving and I made my first Turkey dinner, had the in-laws over, etc. Well I had never made a turkey before, nor did anyone tell me that there was a bag inside that darn bird... :sad2: When we sat down to eat, well my MIL went to carve the turkey and she carved right into the bag with all the junk in it... :scared1: I started to cry and got very upset. We ended up having Rigatoni.....

I can't think of one that I did but my friend thought the drawl on the botton of the range was a broiler and put meat in there to cook. She couldn't understand why it wasn't getting done. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I once made a beautiful chocolate swirl cheesecake and forgot to lock the bottom of the springform pan. When I took it out of the oven, the bottom fell out onto the floor along with the cheesecake. :rotfl2:

Another time I was making a cannoli cake and accidently put in a 1/4 cup of salt instead of a 1/4 tsp salt. The cake was very salty tasting and I was trying to impress some friends of mine. :rotfl2:

How did you do that?

Well.. someone put confectioners sugar in my flour canister one time (Think it was my mom when she lived with me) and I made macaroni and cheese with confectioners sugar. :crazy2:

First homemade dinner for my BF (now DH) and the recipe called for cornstarch, a tablespoon...I was so nervous I put a CUP of cornstarch in the sauce! I could have made an addition to the sidewalk it was hard as a rock...I had to throw the pot away!

What a guy, he ate the meal and married me anyway!

:rotfl2: These are great!
Mine would have to be just recently I was making chicken scampi for dinner and somehow I used way too much wine. DH said it wasnt bad, but it definitely didnt taste like it should. ;)

I wanted to make dinner for my dad when I was about 13 or so. I made chicken with some seasoning he had bought. Only I didn't realize that the special plastic bag I was to cook the chicken in was still in the package the seasoning came in. So I used a regular plastic bag. I can still remember thinking... "Man that chicken just doesn't smell right!"

I was trying to "toast" peppercorns. It was a bright idea I got from watching Food Network. I forgot about them until the noxious fumes hit us and we all started coughing and our lungs were on fire. This was actually just within the last 6 months or so.

I tried to make hot chocolate in the coffee maker - I know what was I thinking ?

But at the time DH loved hot chocolate and I thought - If you just put the mix in the basket part of the coffee maker (without a filter) it would mix and drip down into the coffee carafe and - voila - hot chocolate!!!

Didn't work - hot water and globs of sticky chocolate mix everywhere.

DH laughed at me and made fun of me - so I shouted "HEY, GREAT IDEAS COME FROM ANYWHERE AND IF IT HAD WORKED YOU WOULD BE DRINKING HOT CHOCOLATE RIGHT NOW"

So now we say that all the time - "Well, we had to try and if it had worked we would be drinking hot chocolate right now."

There have been so many, it's hard to remember them all. :rotfl2:

One time I was grilling pork chops and the flame got too hot. So, in order to calm it down, I poured water onto the charcoal. All that did was send the soot up into the pork chops. Not only were they burned, but now they were covered with charcoal dust.

Another time, I put water on to boil. Went outside, got side tracked and talked to a neighbor. By the time I returned, all the water had boiled away and the pot was singed beyond repair. It's a good think I didn't burn the house down.

First time I ever made chicken soup, I put all of the ingredients into the pot, but who'd have thought that you'd have to add boullion? I had mildly chicken flavored water as my soup. DH ate it, but I learned from that experience and now I make one mean pot of soup!
