What's the value of your home?

I love this site. (I know someone who works on it.) I've tried it out several times.

Unfortunately, I find its data about my house to be somewhat incomplete/out of date (e.g., it has a blank field where it should indicate I have 4 bedrooms). This results in a value estimate that is 17% lower than my Nov 2005 re-fi appraisal.

No big deal. I realize the data comes from public records, not real eye-witness estimates. When I use the Zestimator to add in the reality of our improvements, it gets closer to the appraisal.

I hope the site sticks around. It's a really interesting tool.

I've seen this before and they have my house info wrong! By nearly 800 sq ft! I think this info comes from the tax appraisal for the county.

We're gonna have to get that fixed before we try and sell!!!! :teeth:

Hmmm...they can't find a home at my address. Guess my tent isn't worth much! ;)

Cool site, but my house is too new to be on the map. Part of the development is there, but it stops before it gets to our house. :)

My address isn't listed either but my street is. The value they have on my neighbors homes  . I can guess what they would value mine. Waaayy out of whack.

When I put in my address, the info is incomplete and the value is in no way correct. In reality, per a complete apprasal done just 3 weeks ago, my house is worth 575K. Without the sqft of my house and the number of bedrooms, this site has my house worth 473K. When I edit the field to put in the sqft of my home (it is missing), it says my house is worth 843K. Also, when I look at my fathers house, it says it is worth 685K with 3 brm and 2135 sqft. In reality, this house always had 4 brms and he has added in 200 more sqft to the house via a loft. When I put these changed into their "Zestimator" it says the value of the home is 564K. ***, you increase the size of the house and have another bedroom they did not count and your house is worth less. No way. They really need to get this info correct. I do know that they claim that the info is not accurate, but that will not stop some people from using it when they go to a realtor. I feel bad for the realtors that will have to give these people a reality check.

ETA that two of the homes that were used as comps to my house, do not exsist per this site.

Find out on www.zillow.com

Just put in your address and find out what they think of your home......
Doesn't work for everyone. For me, I just get the tax assesment, not any estimate of current value.

They have no info on the first house we built in 1992, one of the last to be put in the development. They also can't find the development of the house we built in a different town in 1998. And this one is apparently too new too. :confused3

I checked out our house when Dan first posted about this site and they listed our house at what I thought was at least $75K too much

Turns out, what they had IS what our house is worth, so now we're refinancing and getting rid of that stupid PMI. :cool1:

Not up to date but neat just the same. It has our house underappraised by about $75,000.

It just lists the land value for my home's lot (built in 2000).

Awesome site! Our house is on the market, and the estimation is within $2500 of our asking price. I think the accuracy of estimation depends on how much data they have for your area. Here in Colorado, so much data is easily accessible public information.

Actually, the tax assessment listed for our house is accurate. That number just has nothing to do with the value of the home - not even close.

And it is still $75,000 off my tax assessment. Out of date for ours.

I would guess that the value is close, but the site must not know that the basement is finished since they list it as a 2 1/2 bath and less finished sf than I think we have. Neat site!

Maybe it's just our area but it doesn't seem that accurate. It gives the tax assessed value which is nowhere near the market value.

This is not accurate. They have my house listed about $100,000 below value. So when I went into update the # of rooms and etc......the new value of my home is $2,199,569........ :rotfl2:

Wait until I tell my DH...... :lmao:

Wow! They have our house listed at more than twice what we paid for it 5 years ago. It is interesting to see how much the houses in our neighborhood sold for recently.
