What's the sweet spot going to be before June?

Trying to pick a long weekend that avoids spring breaks and getting into June/Star Wars/Etc.

What do you think the optimal weekend will be, and why?

Thanks!

My personal theory is everyone is going to be trying to do this in one way or another and it’s going to create crowds during times when they usually aren’t that bad. I think all of 2019 will be nutty honestly! With all the refurbs and shows down after January 22 “through spring” I’d shoot for as late as possible without running into Star Wars opening.

If there is a sweet spot, I don't think it will be a predictable one. Overall, I think the early part of the year will be a bit of a hot mess of high crowds (as people "avoid" crowds by creating crowds), massive amounts of refurbishments, low staffing, lack of entertainment...

I'm there every week, so I'm happy to roll with whatever, but I really feel for people making rare (or worse yet, "once in a lifetime") trips... I think a lot of people are going to be blindsided.

Having said that, I actually think Easter week might not be too bad - Easter is so late this year, but they usually block out that week for lots of APs and ticket specials, CM sign-ins, stuff like that (note: I haven't actually checked on those blockouts this year because we'll be at Disneyland Paris instead!). We've gone the last two Easters and they've been pretty light, and later each week has been crowded but not crazy.

Agree with the above posters that the trend we're seeing on this forum of trying to predict a "sweet spot" for a pre-SWGE visit is actually going to create crowds -- lots of people apparently are trying to beat the SWGE opening, either by necessity because of school/work breaks or because they don't want to be anywhere near DLR when the new land opens.

I agree with those posting above me. Skyegirls idea of Easter week might be a good one. We went on Easter Day a couple years ago (when Easter was late) and Easter day itself was low crowds! The next few days were busier but still manageable.
I wish there was going to be a slower predictable time because I want to take my nieces. Our passes are blocked Easter weekend so that time frame doesn’t work for us. I’m stil trying to figure out dates to take them.

Remember as you work to avoid crowds you increase your ride refurbishment list as DLR uses “lower” crowd times to prep the rides for busy times like summer. Personally I’d go sometime during F&W to add something special to your trip to account for what might be closed.

Yes, I figure Jan-June will be busier because of all the AVOID Star Wars at all cost crowds. Easter is an interesting idea. I typically avoid Easter because of the historic crowds that day/week.
We found spring break time this year to be insane and I vowed never to go during spring break again (which is basically March/April).

We're OK with refurbs. Seems there's always something down anyway. We go often enough that we don't feel like we miss much.
We need to be in SoCal for some family stuff, so I was trying to plan around a day or two at Disneyland. I'm thinking we won't stay on property this trip, and book somewhere in OC for a beach trip.

What days were you there over Spring Break this year? I’m trying to pick dates for my family. Curious which days you were there that we’re really crowded. Thanks!

We are thinking late April/early May. Partially because that is the time that works into our schedule but it seems the latest to go before summer starts. It is a once in 10+ years trip for us but we are including a few days into a general California trip. We figure if we go we will make the best of whatever the crowds and refurbishment are happening then. It seems that there are no great choices.

We are going late April/early May as well, because it works for us and my husband has a work trip out there the weekend after...

We’re thinking about Memorial Day week, right before most local schools get out, and a good couple weeks before blackouts to avoid the “one last visit before blackouts” crowd.

So we will be contributing to the “one last trip before Star Wars” crowd!

We were there the week of 3/5/18. It wasn’t busy. I didn’t know what people were talking about huge spring break crowds. Well my dh changed one of my planned days to attend some comicon thing at the convention center. So we went Monday 3/12. Yiiiiiikes! The security line was to harbor. We did one ride, ate and left. My son with SPD was *freaking* out. There is a post with spring break info. Find that. I’d compare 2018 with 2019 and avoid the schools were that were on break starting 3/12!

I’m going last couple days of jan that roll into the first weekend in February hoping it is going to be real slow. After that I’m booked middle of March which I am sure will be busy.
