What's the simplest way to deal with a cat flea problem?

I know you have a bunch of stuffies/plushies. Those can harbor flea eggs as well. You NEED TO TREAT THE ENTIRE HOUSE! Not just spots but the WHOLE HOUSE!

I really hate to say this too, but if you cannot properly take care of your cat (vet visits) since it is now showing signs of distress, perhaps it's best if you surrender it to a shelter or someone else who has the means to properly care for it. You are making it suffer needlessly.

To be fair, I do not think that Dodger is the decision maker on this, but I really hope that she and her family can get it figured out.

To be fair to the powerless ones with no voice at all in this, if they cannot or will not, I hope they make the decision to not take on more animals in the future.

Guys, don't bother. This isn't even the first thread she has started about this issue. Her cat had fleas sometime last year too and it was the same song and dance. Just continues to ignore all the advice and mentioning all the things they keep doing that are the opposite of what has been suggested. On a different thread where the cat had apparently fell and hit its head and was acting weird afterward she said her mom won't ever take the cat to the vet because she's 'afraid it will get sick'. One wonders why she continually asks for advice about this poor cat if that's the case. What's next? "My cat got run over by a car and its leg got ripped off, what should I do? Would duct tape work?"

A part of me hopes that none of this is actually happening because it's really upsetting to think of a cat having to suffer like this because of outright refusal to do the right thing.

Fleas this summer are the worst I've ever experienced. DD's cat was having seizures that started right after we treated her with Frontline +. We eventually found a solution to the seizures, but then she started having skin issues. we took her to a dermatologist who suggest she use Advantage and nothing else (only product that did not have a history of seizures). She also suggested the seizures may have been triggered by flea bites.

Fast forward, we now have moved DD's cat to live with her at college where the cat is doing great. At roughly the same time, we had to put our 13 yo lab down. Shortly after that, the fleas came out with a vengeance. We have bombed every room some more than once, vacuumed and scrubbed every floor on a daily basis, treated the couches and beds, threw away all the dog beds. We are FINALLY starting to see the end to the fleas but it's been weeks now.

Can't really answer the OP's question except to say to stick with it and don't give up. Anyone who says there is an easy solution I can only say not this year. This has been awful.

The same parent who refuses to take the cat to the vet “in case it makes him sick”? If the OP is accurately reporting things, no one in that house is fit to look after a pet.

In her opening post she said her and her mom's cat, our cat, etc. So yeah she lives there and has the responsibility to also help take care of this problem. They are slowly killing that poor cat and I agree they should never own an animal again if they can't take care of the one they have now.

Ugh! Fleas are not easy to get rid of which is why many people fail. They are not as thorough as you and the fleas manage to come back. I'm so sorry you had to go through with this .

Today Mom found flea drops and we put them on our cat and applying them was easy because my mom had to keep my cat quiet but he was a brave trooper through it all. Now all my cat has done is become a little crazy and he has gone into my room three times and scratched my mom and is sort of jumpy. Is this one of the side effects of the flea drops? Now I hope and pray we have taken care of our cat's fleas for good

You haven’t taken care of them for good unless you also treated your home.

What kind of drops? Hopefully a Frontline or Revolution type of product. Those do work best! Some cats don't like it being on their neck though and it will upset them a little. My cat tends to pout for a couple of hours, but then she's fine. Again do make sure to clean the house - wash all soft things and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! It might be best to get a spray too, but at minimum clean.
