Whats the scoop with the resort casual dress code

Do they really enforce it??
The problem ,of course, IS the enforcement of the dress code. Hit or miss. And mostly (it seems ) miss. We read of folks wearing "non-coded" items to signature restaurants with no problems--then we read of restaurants such as Artist Point where folks were made to put on a polo shirt OVER their T-shirts!!
So who knows??

Just as an aside, the term "dress t-shirt" does not appear on that WDW official site.

Their tshirs must have had something obnoxious on them. We were just at Artist Point..dress code is not enforced and the hostesses were saying so all night long.

I agree webry that what you're wearing has no bearing on the table you'll get. In the example I used earlier, the people had probably the best seat in the house at Jiko (window table, midway back, table set for 4 (given to two).

Same experience with AP last week. We were there for early dinner, a little after 6, and the place was mostly empty. I made DH change into dockers, polo shirt and topsiders. He gave me a little attitude about that when he saw several sit down with shorts and sneakers. People were lugging in backpacks and shopping bags and had strollers and baby carriers. It wouldn't get dark for serveral hours and it felt more like a lunch crowd. I don't think they were turning anyone away since it was so empty but maybe they never really care. Maybe on into the evening they dim the lights and the crowd dresses nicer. [I actually don't care how anyone dresses, just don't want to be out of place ourselves.]

Ok - so if no fanny packs, where do you keep them while you eat? Is there somewhere you can store them? We have an 8am ADR at 1900 PF. We are staying at PC and want to leave straight from breakfast and grab the monorail to Epcot. I definitely DO NOT want to have to go all the way back to PC just for our fanny packs and water bottles. Not sure if 1900 PF has resort casual dress code or not, but being in the GF and having the day planned at Epcot, we had planned on khaki shorts/polos for the guys and sundresses for us girls. So what do people do with backpacks and stuff while they are at the nicer eating establishments???

I looked at the link to the Jiko dress code, and I couldn't find a mention of fanny packs anywhere. Why do you think they are not allowed? Did I miss it somewhere? Also it specifically says 'dress shorts' are allowed for men and women. So I'm thinking that any golf type attire for men or women would be allowed.

Dress Attire is Business Casual
Men: Dress slacks, jeans, trousers, or dress shorts, short or long-sleeved shirt with a collar required. Jackets are optional.
Ladies: Jeans, skirts, or dress shorts with blouse or sweater, or a dress required.
Not permitted in dining room: tank tops, swimming suits or swim suit cover ups, t-shirts, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing of any kind.
*from the Jiko dress code on the disneyworld link.

It sounds like they don't want people coming in from the pool with bathing suit tops or cover ups, or torn jeans or shorts, or as previously mentioned, possibly objectional slogans on t-shirts. But, I think they fully expect people to be coming straight from the parks. So as long as you are "neat and pretty" then "on with the show'! Enjoy your dinner!

There is nothing wrong with fannypacks, backpacks, strollers, etc. I think they were being used as an illustration of atmosphere in an above post not as an example of code breaking.

Exactly.

I carry a fannypack everywhere because it becomes the "purse" on vacation. And often a backpack as well when need to hold jackets and a movie camera and waterbottles.

Well thank goodness I'm not gonna hafta wrestle a CM to get my fanny pack into the resteraunt!!!! :rotfl2: That was seriously about to become my new biggest stress in planning for our trip!! Now I can sleep tonight!!

I have been to Jiko many times and have seen both ends of the dress spectrum. No one will give you a second look if you are wearing a colored t-shirt and shorts. Rule of thumb at Disney, wear what makes "you" comfortable, not others.

ditto... .I've been there many times in shorts and usually a polo - but there were times when I wore a T shirt coming from the parks, what you mentioned is just fine.

We ate at Jiko last Friday. I made everybody in our party wear a collared shirt, but we were staying at AKL so it wasn't a logistical issue.

I actually wore a golf polo, which is pretty casual.

As we were leaving I noticed a family (by the window, as a matter of fact) dressed in T-shirts. 2 tables down from them was a family who were dressed up nicer then we were. I don't think Jiko cares.

I have read about Artist Point being funny on dress code.
