What's the scariest book you've ever read?

COOL-BEANS----Where did Chachi go?? And how does Pee-Wee rate Chachi's tat?? That pic makes me think of the Village People meet the Queer Eye guys.
Chachi turned evil. I had declared that I was going to be rid of him tomorrow.

Then Pee Wee showed up. I appreciate the love and all...but Pee Wee?! I'm trying so very hard to not address this issue with the Tag Fairy...I'll just lose...but PEE WEE?! Grrrrrr.

Just a few of my faves.
"Carrion Comfort" by Dan Simmons
"The Headsman" by James Earl Harvey
"Ice Hunt" by James Rollins
Any thing by H.P. Lovecraft
"Cabinet of Curiosities" by Preston and Child
"Swan Song" by Robert MaCammon
"A Gift Apon the Shore" by M.K. Wren
"Ghost Dance" by Mark Sullivan
I love to read and these authors and books are all fabulous. Try one.
:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I have read a ton of scary books but the one that, to this day, still scares me was a short story from Stephen King's book "Nightshift collection" called The Boogeyman. I had to sleep with my closet door shut and the lights on for months. That was about 17 years ago and occassionally I still get the creeps.

Simon's Soul. I don't even want to see the cover, so I'm not going to google to see who wrote it.

I H.A.T.E.D. it. It scared the crap out of me.

I was just about to post Swan Song - what a scary and at the same time uplifting book! If you recommend these others I'll have to check them out!

Pet Semetary scared me so bad I had tears in my eyes reading it.

I agree on the Kings ones, Carrie, the Shining, Salem's Lot (OMG), the Preston & Childs ones are great too. There is a James PAtterson one that I refuse to re read though, it hit me so hard, I think it's called Cradle and All or something like that. About two virgin births investigated by the Vatican, one child is the child of Christ, the other Satan's spawn. Really creepy. Also the one about the mutant kids, When the Wind Blows. I remember reading the Amityville Horror in jr. high, slept with the lights on for a while. Another one that sticks in my mind was called Audrey Rose, about a child that dies in a fire and is reincarnated. I have read so many I can't keep them all straight!

THE RETURN by Bentley Little. To be honest, it's not that well of a written book, and most of the scary parts are rather corny, but there are one or two parts that just get to you, in particular the part about the boy in the camp cabin who hears the monster walking by right outside his window.
Maybe it's just me, but that part really got me good.

Stephen King's Pet Semetary really, really scared me.

Carrion Comfort is in a category all by itself. It was a book that I passed on to about a dozen of my best friends.

Me too!! His books really freak me out, but I have read almost all of them! :confused3

I don't remember the name of one of his books that creeped me out the worst, but there were these monkeys in it... I don't like monkeys anymore!

I agree...Revelations is pretty scary!!!

Also:

"Angels Dark and Light" by Gary Kinnamon...his true experiences counseling those who are possessed.

And some book which I honestly do not remember the name of. We were studying the "Salem witch trials" in jr. high history, and I expressed to the teacher that I didn't really know what witchcraft was. She brought me this book to read. It was all about some witch's experience trying to leave the religion. Looking back, it was probably a whole bunch of bunk....but, MAN did it scare me!!!

Oh....has anyone heard about some book that just came out that is supposedly SOOO scary that people are fainting at book readings? I heard about it on the radio, but cannot remember the name of it.

Love Dean Koontz's books. I never found them to be scary because I always really liked his characters. His latest character Odd Thomas is very interesting and you just feel so sorry for him. One of Koontz's more interesting books is the The Taking. Really makes you think about alternative explanations along religious lines.

Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" is the scariest book I ever read ( and the scariest movie!)

Pet Sematary by Stephen King. I couldn't finish it.

:surfweb:

I don't scare or laugh or cry alot when reading.

Dean Koontz's "Watchers" scared me quite a bit as I was up in the woods at a house with no electricity, reading it by Coleman lantern.

When I was young I loved Stepen King books. I also read alot of true crime books like In cold Blood, Helter Skelter (really scared me) there was one that I can't remember the name of it was sort of like the Amityville Horror. I think it might have been set in Tennessee. I was reading it by the lake by myself and ended up throwing it in the trash and running to my car as fast as I could. I wish I could remember the name of it.
