What's the pool water really like in October?

Cold? Cool? Worth It?

We're typically not the kind of family to take a break from the parks but I'm still on the fence about staying at the DLH. And if we did I'd definitely want to check out the pool. I know for sure my son would not care one bit about the pool being cold, he'd enjoy it any way. Me not to much.

I am from from Ireland and grew up cold water sea swimming in the Atlantic ocean off the South coast of Ireland. I was in LA in January and I used the outdoor pool at The Hilton Universal Studios. It was fine for me, the water temperature was about the same as sea swimming in Ireland in July. I was in the pool around lunch time, when most of the pool area was in the sun and it was fine, but once the sun moved around 3pm, it got cool.

I feel like my son was meant to live in a place with constant cool water. He'd love cold water sea swimming. I don't know how he stands it. lol

Summer holidays in July and August I was always fine. In Ireland, people swim in the fresh water lakes and I used to do that too growing up as my grandparents lived near a fresh water lake. My Grandpa went swimming in the lake every day, even in winter. He used to wear a wet suit in the winter, and would even swim in the rain.

The worst part is getting in and getting wet. Once your whole body is under the water you just start moving and its fine.

My sons were fine with the water in December. Then again they are Canadian, so while their California girl mama was shrouded in robes and towels they were happily swimming away. Personally I stayed in the hot tub. ;)

EDIT: Clarification: in the hot tub with a Dole Whip with Rum… :D

This is my kind of vacation...something to think about.

The pools at the DLH are heated. We have swam there on several occasions in November. October can be hotter than summer. It is not unusual for it to be between 80-100 in October, though you might get some days that are 60s-70s. I say it all the time but our weather is weird. 🤷‍♀️

Well we're in Colorado where we have all 4 seasons in one day, so weird is normal for us. lol

We used the DLH pool last November. It was cool but really nice because it was pretty hot that weekend. It was hotter for our November trip than our early October trip. So who knows what you’ll get.

October, especially the early part, is still pretty hot in Southern California. The pools should be nice and refreshing for mid-afternoon breaks.

October is very often the hottest month of the year here. But the pools are heated and comfortable to swim in year-round.

We're going in October and chose the DLH specifically for the pools. The average temperature when we're going is mid-80s. I live in Northern CA so it can definitely be finicky, but you should be good.

You're describing me exactly, LOL!

We have a pool and live in N California where it gets hot in the summer. My girls laugh about the fact that I won't go in the pool until the thermometer reaches 90.
