For the life of me I can not understand why the Admin(s?) of these forums permit folks to discuss volatile subjects such as politics, religion, sexual orientation, etc. It's a Disney forum for crying out loud. Why do most folks love going to Disney so much? To escape all this everyday BS for a little while and have a little fun. Why then would/should it be any different here?

For the life of me I'll never understand why folks will endlessly debate a subject (political or otherwise) on forums such as these. No one is going to change anyone else's mind, political affiliation, sexual orientation, views on crock pot bearing, etc. Why must we have to  there really is no way to "win".

I'm calling for the Admin(s?) of these forums to bring the focus of this community back to what we're all really here for: The love of all things Disney, and then work to keep it that way.

Thanks. I'll shoosh now.

I learn a lot from these threads/debates etc. It doesn't have to be about *winning* but maybe better learning where the other sde is coming from... I have changed my mind about quite a few thiings from years of reading online forums..Sometimes they do get out of hand, but as long as people try to be respectful of others opnons,I think open dialog is always a good thing.

This is the board where you can discuss other things of interest to the community besides Disney. There are several other boards to discuss WDW and DL parks, resorts, dining, etc. You should check them out. Many posters stick to strictly to those other boards.

P.S. I just noticed the new sub-boards, and the Community board seems full of interesting topics on page one for the first time in ages. Great job, mods!

And another thing that's bothering me. Why is it that the Gay/Lesbian community is the only minority group with their own forum? Why don't we have an African-American board? Or a Latino board? Or a "People Who Like To Use Crock Pots In Their Resort Room" board? Or God forbid (no pun intended) a Christian board?

I really don't get it.

I have learned a lot, too. I learned a TON about other religions on the "Is Being Gay a Lifestyle Choice" thread.

And when people aren't just telling each other that they are stupid, there is interesting discussion on the political boards.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the mods must have decided that the gays/lesbians had enough common concerns that they deserved their own board, and maybe enough that they weren't comfortable discussing on the Community board. There is a thread on the Community board for Christians if you would like to participate. You can always suggest a new board, too, or even create your own Disney message board.

Why would you complain about the mods allowing political posts when you have posted some of your own? If you truly thought they were inappropriate, why would you join in?

Simply because I can. Call me a hypocrite, really, you won't hurt my feelings.

You know, I Admin another vB board, totally unrelated to anything Disney. At one time we did allow political discussions on our boards, until it started looking like what you have here. We decided that since our forums were not related to politics in any shape or form, we wouldn't have any political discussions. The flame wars died down, and everyone (our community), for the most part, came back together again.

Here's are a few exerts from our Forum CoC:

2) You may not use sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, overly abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language. Rule of thumb: Keep it clean on the public boards.

6) You may not violate any local, state, national, or international laws or regulations.

8) You may not form or participate in groups whose ideology is based on or resembles anti-religious, anti-ethnic, anti-sexual orientation, racist, or sexist philosophies. Please, no discussing politics or religion.

9) You may not distribute or spotlight harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially or ethnically offensive content.

10) The moderators of the Forums have the authority to enforce these rules as necessary.

So far, it's worked amazingly well for us (1000+ folks).

Well, you're on a board where someone will flame another simply for posting their opinion of Martha Stewart. I highly doubt getting rid of political threads will solve the issues we have on this board. ;)

LOL! Funny you mention Martha. As a joke on our boards, "Martha Stewart" is on the word filter list. :lmao:

I see what ticked you off. To partake in the political debates, you really have to be on your toes. People can spot a quote or talking point from a mile away.

Your board is much smaller than the Dis. The Dis has upwards of 100,000 participants if I'm not mistaken (someone correct me if I'm wrong). More people, more walks of life, more interests. I agree with Jenny, I've read some different points of view that I never would have anywhere else. I don't see the problem with anything here. :)

Oh my--did someone forget to read what the CB is for again???.

Join our moderators in a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly :)

Geesh--if you have a problem with a thread topic and feel it violates guidelines, feel free to report it. They do close/delete threads that are problematic or vulgar.

But for the love of the boards--be aware of the subject matter you are stepping into when you click on a board.

The membership of this board blows yours out of the water and we don't seem to have any problems and the mods enforce THIS boards rules.

Why do people come here expecting this board to copycat others--it is beyond me.

Do I come to your house and expect you to follow MY house rules???

ETA: Just looked at your posts--why on earth would you go on a thread for one political affiliation to :stir: ? It is posts like that that make the CB seem a little less welcome sometimes.

This is probably the reason why the theme parks board now is larger then the community board. However this is what the community board should be for. There are boards for everything park related, this board is for everything else.

Standing ovation, LLP!!! :) :thumbsup2

I like conversation. There aren't enough people that I know in RL on a daily basis that like to get into meaty discussions about important things. In my town, the conversation can be a bit shallow.

I think the world is lacking in it -- there's too little, not too much.

LOL can you imagine if all we did ever was talk about WDW! :rotfl:
I mean, we are a bunch of pretty obsessed people as it is! If we only talked about WDW, then I'd worry about the board!

Your choice, it's only a click or two away.

I like the way things are around here.

I'm happy with the CB the way it is. It took me a while to find it, but I check in every day. There are a multitude of topics, and I simply avoid those that I don't care to participate in. Not really difficult. I enjoy different viewpoints, and since I am home now, I miss the discussion that come with coworkers. This board is a great substitute.
