What's the going rate for Cable/Internet

We pay about $175 a month for cable, phone and internet through Comcast. Unfortunately, we are in an area that is only served by Comcast. I would love to go AT&T, but we can't get internet through them now. We can get phone and Direct TV though. Internet is a big one for our family though! They have told us it would be a year or so before we get internet through AT&T, but we have heard that story since we moved here in 2003! Same this with the Verizon Fios. So, for now, we are keeping Comcast. The $175 includes digital cable on 3 TVs, 2 DVRs and internet (the middle speed) I think it is way too high, but until they get competition, I know the price won't lower. I called to ask for a better package and they came down a little, but that expires very soon. My friend called Comcast last month (she lives in the same area) and they wouldn't budge on her package. Told her they weren't making deals anymore! My nephew works for Comcast in another state and he said it just depends on who answers the phone on whether you will get a discount or not and what kind of mood the person is in! That seemed a bit ridiculous to me! Anyway, it sounds like we are paying about what other Comcast customers are paying.

Holy moly. This thread reminds me why we will be the last house on the planet without cable.:lmao:

Us too! :thumbsup2 We pay $22 for home phone, $10 for DIAL-UP! with netzero (which is soooo slow and I know I have to bite the bullet this year and upgrade to high-speed for the kids and their school) and pay $18 for our basic cable which include the major networks, PBS, QVC and a few others for a total of about 16 channels. So $50 for all- and if we did not need the phone line for the dial-up I would cancel that and live off our cells.

Only DH complains occasionally about the lack of sports channels- kids don't notice a thing and we hardly ever watch anyway. They watch PBS cartoons for 30 min after school and Sat am cartoons. I only watch the news and NBC shows...The Office, Law and Order, etc.

We have lived 7 years this way. I hate to change it.

We pay $66/month for cable (Comcast). We only have expanded basic. No dvr (I know the horror), non-digital. We might switch to digital soon since it's about the same price but we aren't sure yet.

Internet, cell (one phone) & land line cost us about $92/month.

I don't believe the part about the person's mood, but I do agree with your nephew that it may depend on exactly who you get on the phone (he's not in Lubbock, is he?).

When I was trying to cut costs, I called Comcast. Couldn't do anything for me. I called back a couple of days later and somehow from way up here in the cold northeast, I got connected to a VERY helpful gentleman in Lubbock... who was able to find me an amazing - if temporary - deal. I think he said something like, "I found a promotion you're eligible for"!

comcast bronze package includes internet $85 a month. One box with DVR. we pay basic cable with HBO thru the HOA at $74 per qtr.

Just to note - where I live there is Comcast, Verizon FIOS, and RCN. I have RCN - I love them - the best customer service. I was just about to lose my 2 year lock in rate, when RCN called ME and told me they were going to extend my rate for 1 more year. I guess they figured out I would just switch to one of the others for 1 year.

I pay 129.99 a month - with taxes and fees 149. That is for an HD DVR, one regular box, all HBO, SHO, TMC, Starz, my Gateway router, high speed internet, and phone service - which includes free long distance.

You have to love competition.

I'm in NJ and have Comcast. We pay $125.53 per month for internet and cable and it includes 2 HD cable boxes plus HBO, ShowTime and some other movie channels. Because my work pays us back for the internet portion of the bill (about $38 of the $125), we splurge and get a movie channel package. We use Vonage for home phone service.

we still pay for each service seperately- will continue unless a bundle is cheaper
tv- dishnetwork-1 dual box(2 rooms) DVR (lovelovelove) with local channels 36.00 per month-
landline+ internet- on same provider -total is approx 50-60.00 per month based on any LD calls we might make
we try to pay for only what we will use- so our phone service, while appears they run better deals (60 flat rate for unlimited) it isn't really,as that's the BASE charge, and add in fees and the phone/net service jumps to at least 75.00 per month-
so when we add everything with all the FEES (the most important hidden charges) we never hit 100.00 per month.
haven't found any cheaper than this yet, barring getting rid of our landline-

to all the 'no cable' responses out there...I actually don't care about the cable so much...I actually pay for the minimum service for the DVR. It is so priceless, esp. with kids, it means you never again just randomly 'watch what's on' you can always have something worth watching when you have the time to watch it. IMHO, it makes the tv bearable- as I have a personal hatred for random screen watching for no reason.........:rotfl2:
My kids are well used to me saying, 'watch a taped DECENT show or turn that thing off!!!":rotfl:
that makes censoring out the garbage easier, watching educational things easier, and turning it off when your show is over MUCH easier- so as another cheapskate in the group(yes I am:laughing:) I am willing to pay for this service.

I pay $150 a month. I have Comcast Triple Play with On Demand. Second tier Digital cable (first tier didn't have the channels we normally watch) plus HBO. 1 HD receiver, 1 HD/DVR. The other tvs in the bedrooms just get basic cable so no boxes. We have high speed internet and the digital voice with all the features. I switched in August and got the rate locked in for 2 years and free installation. I also qualified for a $200 rebate, but not sure why. Happily cashed the check though :)

Previously we had DirecTV and internet/phone through our phone company. Paid about $30 more a month for roughly the same services except no HBO. I'll probably switch back to them after our 2 years with Comcast is up because I should then hopefully qualify for the new customer offers.

I pay $160.00 a month for Verizon Fios Internet, Phone and TV with a dvr and three additional boxes. Those additional boxes are a real bill raiser. I love the dvr though, and it's nice to be able to watch the shows you have taped in any room although as I write this it is probably 100% full with shows I haven't had the time to watch. Isn't it amazing at what we now pay for all these technologies that our parents never had to pay? Between our Verizon Fios and Verizon cellphone bill I'm paying $300.00 a month, and I just keep thinking I have to cut something because that's just ridiculous. I won't sacrifice high speed internet, but we have done for many, many years with just basic cable which used to be about 15.00 a month, but just a little over a year ago, I switched to Fios, and cringe when the bill comes in every month. I don't feel like we truly get our money's worth out of the cable tv or the home phone since I have no family out of state to use the unlimited long distance, and all my close family and friends have Verizon cellphones so we have unlimited free calling between us.

OP that is what we pay for comcast with the 3 pla. Rate for cable Internet phone 2 boxes with HD o1 with DVD and HBO

We're paying about $75 for Dish Network with no pay channels and three receivers. We have high speed Internet from AT&T for $35. Our cell phones are too high at $70 from AT&T but I have more minutes than we need. We don't have landlines.
