What's the drill for National ressie made 6 months ago?

I made a reservation with National in about February for our September trip. Of course, everything has changed since then, but I have held onto the reservation since the price is outstanding compared to now ($162 for 10 days). The printout that I have confirms a full-size car on the Emerald Aisle. Of course, this doesn't happen anymore. If I go in and check the ressie now, it says that I need to go to the counter. I certainly don't want to do that. How have people worked this situation recently? Any advice or experiences? Thanks!

You need to call national and have them change it to Emerald Reserve.

I had a full size EA reservation for May that I made in February. I didn't like any cars on the EA, so I took a car off the full size. Checked out with no problem and my final charge was actually $10 less than the reservation!

We had a ressie like yours. We just returned 2 weeks ago (tomorrow) and never even when back into the site after getting our ressie....just didn't occur to me to do that. With our Emeral Aisle -- full size car ressie, we headed right to the lot (no counter stop for us). I knew about the new rule about only intermediate cars can pick from the EA, so went straight to the full size lot, picked out a car, zip to the kiosk, handed in my papers, id, etc. and was out in less than 10 minutes. Got me receipt when I dropped off the car--took less than 3 minutes. They printed out my receipt and it was EXACTLY the same price I was quoted once upon a time---back when the rates were oh so low. I booked my rental cars for my May and July trips (both no problem and rate granted as stated), plus my Sept. and October trips were booked then too.

Cameo, I just had your situation three weeks ago. But my experience was not like a couple of our other posters.

When I called to reconfirm, my rate had increased to the full-size rate from the intermediate rate. (This was probably not proper, since I had already been confirmed at a lower rate, but arguing isn't good for me.) They were willing to restore my previous rate and change the reservation to an intermediate.

When I got to the Aisle (actually picked up the car in Miami to drive to WDW), there were several nice full-size Centurys (or Centuries, if you prefer) available, so I ended up getting my full-size car anyway.

What would have happened if I hadn't called and just taken a car from the Aisle? Can't be sure, but I would probably have been charged a higher rate.

Since I normally fly into MCO at about 6:30am, there's never a line at the National desk, so I'll sometimes stop there to reconfirm my reservation.

Question? What happens if I booked my rate for Sept. 27 6mo. ago when rates were cheaper. But now I am coming in 1 day or 16 hrs earlier. Can I keep the original reservation and just show up early, and pay the extra day rate? Or do I need to book a new reservation? The best rate I can find for a minivan now is 270. With all the taxes and fees. Right now I am at 180.00. If I have to pay for an extra day my grand total would only be about 210.00

Try to modify your present reservation. I did this with National last week as I added a day. It kept the original rate and charged the extra day at the rate it would have been when I made the reservation. If you don't like the rate after the modification, you don't need to keep it.

Make sure you take the printout of your confirmation. I just returned this week and they more than doubled my price. I took about 45 minutes to get it fixed, but without the printout, I would have been 'slammed' by National. I had a 12 night rental on a full size for a total of $316 they charged me $653. I had to get a supervisor and we had to go back into the main check in area to get it fixed.

They blamed it on the 'merger' with Alamo, but this is not the first time they tried to 'increase their profits' with my money. So everyone, always take a copy of the confirmation letter that shows the price. No matter which car rental company you use.

tootsimolly -

THis is exactly what happened to me. Our flight changed and we were leaving later on our final day. I went in and modified my original reservation. It kept my rate and just added on the few hours that we were adding - thankfully. Now, if everything just works out when we get there, we'll be in luck!! Thanks to all for the responses.

Gail,
Thanks for the information. I modified my reservation on National last night. Thanks!! The best rate I could come up with for two extra days was over $300.00. But, after modifiying my reservation I am at $258.00 and that is with all my taxes etc. Thanks again to everyone on the boards! Oh, I wanted to let everyone know that is for a minivan for 9 days.

Thanks again,

Angee
