Anyone know the difference between a cat 8 & 9?? I just can't figure it out!! Thanks!!:teeth:

The catagories are the same except they are located on different decks. The cat 8 are higher.:D

oh, I see, is being higher better? Because cat8 costs more than 9??

Supposedly high is better - in my opinion, the higher up you go the more you can feel movement - that's why I stay on Deck 5!

We really liked our category 9 on deck 2, on our last cruise. We booked another cat. 9, deck 2 for our next cruise. Personally, I wouldn't pay more for cat. 8, it just doesn't make sense to me. It might take longer (on deck 2) to get to the pools, but it's much closer to the restaurants. ::yes::

Sandy, you are a gal after my own heart. We are staying in a cat. # also. Won't have as far to roll back to our cabin after dinner!!!

When I read your post, I thought of the polka "Roll Out the Barrels" - then I realized you came from Pennsylvania (like my family did!) and I really had a good laugh!!!

Polka, anyone??????

Rae

I Love You Rae!!! You make me laugh!!! I am saving a Pennsylvania Polka dance for you and me on that birthday celebration cruise in April 2005!!! Put me on your dance card.

By the way, on my last post I omitted the #9 as my category. OOPS!! I think I really like the idea of being close to the restaurants.

OH no, so I am going to be more sea sick because we are a cat 9?? I didn't PICK it, we were upgraded- now I am freaking out...:(

Just one question for you. Who's going to lead?! I'll save more than one dance for you - after all, it's in my genes to polka!

Hugs

On our first cruise we were told a cat. 9 could be a room with 2 small portholes instead of the 4ft porthole on cat. 8. We stayed in cat. 8, so not sure if this is true.:firefight

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm almost positive the only category 9 staterooms that have the two little portholes are on deck 1. As long as your stateroom number is not 1### you will have a 3 ft diameter porthole.

Princess49 ~ Why do you think you would be more apt to get seasick in a category 9 stateroom? I can get seasick just looking at a boat. Just be prepared. After I took SeaCalm (They give it away on the ship) I felt fine. I will be more prepared this time and take the pills before we even leave port.

Zandy, rae said it's higher & the higher you go the more motion you feel, now I am worried!! Can I buy seacalm before I leave so I can do the same? Are there any side effects? I don't want to be sleepy & how often did you have to take it? I hope it works for me too! Thanks for your advice!:D

All category 9 staterooms are on decks 1 and 2. The deck numbers start at the bottom and go up, so deck 1 would be the lowest and deck 11 would be the highest. If you decide on booking category 9, try to get deck 2, midship. Disney Cruise Line Deck Plans

SeaCalm is the same as Bonine. It did make me very sleepy after I had an alcoholic drink. Not a good combination for me. Everyone is different, it might not effect you the same way. You might want to try it out at home, before the cruise. I can't remember how often you have to take it.

We actually already have a cat 9, we were upgraded- room 7010, I think it's towards the front of the ship, to be perfectly honest, I feel like the least likely time that we will be feeling motion sick is in our cabin, we'll really only be sleeping there & I thouroughly enjoy being rocked to sleep at night! Well, not much I can do about it now, it's not as if I can say, Hey, disney-- I know you gave me a comp upgrade but I'd really like to change my room #..... I don't know how that would go over!! I think I'll buy the bonin tomorrow & try it out this weekend- are there any signs i should look for? is it the same as non drowsy dramamine? Thanks again for your help- :)

Oh, I didn't realize you already had your cabin and had been upgraded. If you look at deck 7, 7010 is actually category 8. Wow, that's WAY forward. What cabin did you have before you were upgraded?

I've read, on these boards, that some people break out in a rash or have flu-like symptoms with some seasick medications. I'm sure these are rare cases. I was totally fine until I had a drink, then I was knocked right out. Fell asleep at the premiere of Monsters Inc.

is WAY FORWARD bad?!?! oh boy I am getting seasick sitting at my computer right now because I am so nervous about our room now. :(

I don't have first hand experience being that far forward, but some people say the motion is the worst there.
