whats the difference between South beach and Atkins?

Was at Sams club and saw the book south beach diet. I have been considering atkins but just dont think its for me. I skimmed through South beach and it seemed similar to atkins.....so whats the difference?
 
I am not an expert on Atkins, but from what I know, the first two weeks are very similar. One exception is SBD encourages lower fat intake than Atkins. The second phase of SBD adds back good carbohydrates. I believe you get more carbohydrates with SBD. You also do not have to count carbs in SBD.
 
I think you can kindof look at the LC diets like a spectrum:

Lowest,
Most Restrictive
<----Atkins-----ProteinPower-------SBD--------The Zone------------>

Its not quite that simple, but I think if you look at it that way, and you can assess your own sugar/carb sensitivity, you can pick where on in the spectrum you best fit. Some people get all the appetite suppression and health benefits they need from The Zone, whereas others just can't seem to handle any refined carbs and sugars.

Of course there are others in there, too. These are the Big Name LCers!
 
On Phase 1 South Beach allows more vegetables, less fats. Phase 2 more fruits and other carbs. still lower fats.

At least that's the differences I've noticed. DH is doing Atkins, I'm on SB.
