What's the difference between O'hana and Kona Cafe?

After an AMAZING Free Dinning trip this past Sept. we can't wait to try a brand new set of TS locations and return to our favorites.

We've heard alot of great things about O'hanas and Kona but have yet to recently enjoy a meal at either. In 2001, we had a character breakfast at O'hanas... but now we're more interested in Lunch/Dinner.

I've reviewed the menus for both... but outside of that, what are some of the differences? What about the strengths and weaknesses? I've been reading the reviews of each, but have yet to find a good comparison of the two.

Thanks!

I would recmmend Kona but not Ohana. I do not think it would be appropriate to compare them. One has changed and still remains good and a favorite of many CMs. The other continues to change loosing it cultural aspects and in our families opinion continues to decline despite its popularity...may the DDP is helping it stay busy.

Overall, I think there is a very accurate discription of Ohana discussed within one of the roundtable discussion from September: roundtable59-091107-56.mp3

I know Ohana gets a lot of mixed reviews, but we ate dinner there for the first time this past November and loved it. It was by far our favourite meal of the trip. The food was delicious (I know there's a lot of complaints about dry meat and such) but our meal was great. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was fun.

We haven't tried Kona so I can't compare or recommend one over the other, only wanted to add how much we enjoyed Ohana.

Never been to Kona b/c I don't like the menu but we love Ohana. All you can eat and good food plus doing the hula makes for a great evening.

We were there at kona and ohanas in sept. and had an excellent meal at both places and i have adr for jan to both places as well.

Kona has a more toned-down atmosphere, no singer, no coconut races and things like that. It's really more about the food there.

We were extremely rushed at 'Ohana last July and I'm not ready to return yet, but we go to Kona on every trip. Lunch is our favorite, fresh light food and quiet.

For our family, Ohana was an 'okay we will try this once and if we like it, we will go back' kind of place. We tried it and had poor service and the food was lacking (it was a late ADR) and the food tasted like it had been 'roasting' for hours (too long). Kona is a restaurant that we frequent multiple times each trip, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts.

We've always liked Ohana and Kona. Kona has a great breakfast menu and we often swing by when we drop someone off at the airport early in the morning. Ohana has, or at least had, a family-style character breakfast that was good the few time we tried it, but we like Kona better. Kona has a fairly decent dinner menu, but we like Ohana better for dinner (did it twice in one week not long ago).

Like anything else, a lot depends on personal preferences.

I ate at O'Hana 1 time several years ago and didn't care for it at all. Kona on the other hand is the 1 restaurant I go to every time. We had dinner there last week and it was wonderful!!
