What's the deal with the Headless Horseman

We were at the party on the 8th and sat beside a CM (the white marked off boxes on the curb) and several off duty CMs. They explained the horse goes much slower coming out of Libery Square b/c he is guided by light and it is dark over the bridge and they must walk him over. Also several CMs in our area made repeated announcements about NO flash photos of the horseman and mentioned when the horse spooked into the crowd a few weeks ago (not sure when). Still, people took flash photos :sad2: , and the CM commented that "you'd think they'd learn after what happened before." The photos people have shown here are great, but I did not take the chance with a flash, and just enjoyed the headless horseman slowly trotting by! (We were right in front of the castle after the villains show and just kept that spot for the last parade.)

They loudly announced numerous times to turn off external video camera lights and to keep them off during the parade. I asked the CM next to me about flash photos of the parade, and she said that flashes were fine, it's the constant light from a video camera that can even throw the floats off.

See, that makes sense to me. Thanks for the info too! I can't wait to see this! He's one of the main reasons I wanted to go to the party! :goodvibes

Don't count on seeing him. He couldn't ride on the 5th because of rain. Some people were really mad as that was what they had paid to see. I was disappointed but understood before purchasing my ticket that it wasn't a guarentee that he could do his run.

It won't crush me - but it was surely a bonus for me wanting to go. I am going to do two nights at the party so hopefully that increases the chances.
Doesn't he ride before both parades too? I'm sure there will be bit of rain at some point during the trip, that's just expected. Makes sense that they wouldn't want him to come out in the rain though, so that certainly wouldn't disappoint me.

Yes, the Headless Horseman kicks off both parades.

Ok, I just finished watching the video we took (no external lights if anyone was wondering ;) ) of the 2nd parade the night we went. We were on Main Street for that parade. Not one CM ever said no flash pictures, and as the horse was trotting past us, you could see the strobe lights on top of the building criss crossing all over, way more distracting than the flashes going off.
