I've seen and heard alot of stuff about disney trading pins? What exactly are they? Where do you get them? What is the point of collecting all these pins? do you get money for them? are some worth more than others?

I used to wonder about the pins too, that is until our last trip. Our friends daughter had a pin collection laynard. My boys decided that was a fun way to remember their trip too. We had gotten the free laynards as part of our package with two pins.

The brother of the little girl decided to start a collection as well. My boys choose themes. One took Donald, the other was Mickey and the rides my son had gone on. Of course, there are some pins they just liked as well.

We used our Disney Visa rewards on the pins (we decided to use them for souvenirs as the rest of the trip was budgeted for) so the boys got some nice pins to remember the trip by.

They hang in the rooms and remind them to remind us to go back to WDW.

My boys love the pins. My oldest pins them on his disney ball cap and dh as well. We just love to collect things.:teeth:

My family has had great fun with these. Even my husband, who isn't a big Disney fan, chases down cast members to look at their pins. He selected a theme by searching out anything that is related to music. The boys and I just trade for anything we think is cute.

I have bought some on clearance at the Disney Catalog Outlet Store, on-line at the Disney Store, on eBay and from the Megasuperstore. I try to hold the cost down to around $2 each, though when it gets hard to find them, sometimes I pay more. We parcel them out every morning before leaving for the parks. We don't wear or carry the ones we trade for that we want to keep.

It is particularly fun when you are waiting or standing in line. We only trade with cast members, since they will trade anything they have for any official Disney pin.

Our kids have really enjoyed it. We also try and buy cheap pins at the Disney Outlet before we go. Our DD collects Tinkerbelle, one DS looks for Elephants & Dragons, and the other DS just picks what he likes. They only trade with CMs and we let them buy one special pin while we are there. They usually pick a favorite ride or the resort we are at.

As with any type of collecting, it is a HUGE deal to those that collect the Disney pins! At DTD I saw special tables set up and people opening their binder of pins to trade with others. At the Disneyana Conventions you can purchase special sets of pins, and they have a meeting room filled with vendors selling all sorts of pins from all of the parks worldwide, etc. I started collecting back in 2000, but am not very serious about it as some are. I just bought ones that appealed to me. This last trip was our son's first, so I picked up pins that he would like (the year pin, first trip, train, monorail, his favorite rides, shows, characters, etc). Ive also found some on Ebay. I had a few that light up, which he gets a kick out of. I also picked up a guest of honor badge for him as well. Now they hang on a Mickey lanyard in his room along with his Mickey hat to remind him of his trip. They have pins for everything Disney. Its unreal! Every even has a pin. There are limited edition pins, some that light up, some play music, etc. There are kiosks all over in each park. You can trade with cast members (they have some hard to get ones) and anyone else (a great way to meet people too). DTD has a huge pin shop as well. They arent cheap and add up very quickly, so control yourself! They do have little starter sets which are fun.
