-carriage ride? We're a party with 2 very small kids (4 & 5) and 4 adults -do they have extra sized carriages for extended fasmily's? Is the price per person or per trip as someone told me? What hours do they operate and, most important have you done it and is it FUN? ; )

We've done it multiple times and really enjoyed it. The cost is per carriage, not per person. As far as I know, they only have 1 size carriage. Here are the details from http://www.portorleans.org/

Take a relaxing, old-fashioned horse & carriage ride through the beautiful and serene woodlands and pathways of the Port Orleans resorts. Your private ride commences at the Port Orleans Riverside marina dockside (just behind the lobby building) and takes you on a slow and romantic journey along the banks of the Sassagoula River to Port Orleans French Quarter, where you will turn around in its quaint New Orleans-style streets for your return journey back to Riverside. Alternatively, you can choose for your carriage to cross over Ol’ Man Island and follow the riverbank pathway alongside the Riverside mansion buildings and back again.

The cost is $55 including tax for the 25-minute ride and the carriage can hold up to four adults, or two adults and three small children (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). You should arrive at the marina area no later than 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time and wait for the carriage to collect you. The service may be cancelled in cases of inclement weather.

  • Departures are every 30 minutes during scheduled operating hours, which are normally 5:30pm — 9:30pm. There is usually a short rest break for the horses at 7:30pm so that time slot will probably not be available.
  • Reservations are recommended and can be made up to 180 days in advance via 1-407-WDW-PLAY (1-407-939-7529).
  • Guests wishing to check on same-day availability may call 1-407-824-2832, and walk-up guests will be accepted at the departure location if there are no pre-booked reservations for that time slot.
  • The price is now $55, which increased from $45 on 1 October 2017, and payment is required when you make the reservation. If you change your mind you can cancel and receive a full refund up to 24 hours prior to your booking.
  • Credit/Debit Cards cannot be used if payment is being made directly to the carriage driver, but you may charge the ride to your room account.
  • Due to the nature of the carriages they are not wheelchair accessible. Guests must be able to transfer from wheelchairs and step up into the carriage.

Per the Disney site: Carriages fit up to 4 adults (or 2 adults and 3 small children) and it looks like the ride costs $55. I took one with my now husband on our first trip, on this trip since we're staying on site at POFQ he wants to do it again.

My wife and I have taken the horse drawn carriage ride twice.
The first time we were staying in one of the mansions (our first stay at POR) and the driver took us through Alligator Bayou. We hadn't walked through this section during our stay and thought the next time we stay at POR; this is the section we want to stay at.

The next visit; we did stay in Alligator Bayou and we reserved a ride again. This time the driver took us through Port Orleans French Quarters. For anyone thinking of doing this I/we would recommend it. And make sure you get reservations in early if you have a specific date in mind. We made it at Guest Service in the lobby.
Our first trip we were able to walk right up and get on. The second time we tried walking right up and they were booked for the evening. So we booked it for the next evening and there were very few times available to choose from.

It sounds like the carriage ride wouldn't accommodate the size of your party.

Thx for the info

IMG_1065.JPG This is an observation and an opinion only. I believe they go by weight just as much by size. We are a family of 5, 4 adults and 1 child and have always gone on a ride all together. When you think of horse rides anywhere they always ask your weight, even over at FW they make you stand on a scale, even if they can tell you are u dear the 250 maximum. So the horses have a driver, and one I can remember over the years is quiet heavy, another one is quiet regular size. After about our third year, I realized why, but some years they would ask us to wait for the other horse, even though we had an appt, it took a few times to realize, they were making us wait because of our total weight, no they don't make you stand on a scale but they can look at a party and gather oh they weigh about 650 together and I the driver weight 150 so we are good at 800 pounds. Which is find for most horse drawn horses, 800 to 1000 pounds because they also have the wagon weight.

So with that as a guide, if you walk up and each of the female adults weigh 125, and each of the men weigh 180, and each of the kids weigh 40, and you all fit most likely they will allow you all in a carriage.

On the other hand if one person weighs 300, 2 people weigh 200 and one person weighs 180 and the kids both weigh 65, and you get a heavy set driver, you most likely will be ask to seperate the group.

Since that is so complicated to write, Disney tries to come up with the average, and say 4 adults or 2 adults, three small children.

Picture below shows us all before our weight lose program, I would say we are a good 130 pounds less between us now, oh except the kids they have grown over the past few years. This was a carriage ride out at FW. And sorry, no picture of service dog, they will not let him ride.

Oh, by the way, thinking of a 4 year old, you can see a little, none of us are very squished. There is room on the side me and my daughter are sitting, opposite the kids, if we were to move over a little we could sit another small child in. The older girl there is 10 and the younger one is 7. And as you can tell we are all hefty adults, and we had the driver who was hefty. So judge your family size and weight, because I have seen 6 in a carriage, three adults and three kids or four adults and 2 kids, and I have seen four adults, like us when we have my ex with us and my granddaughter we had four adults and a 5 year old. I use to work around horses and know that many many times it is more the weight than it is the size. The carriage is big enough for average size four adults and two small kids, you just have to desire if your group weighs less than what Disney tells there drivers is max, which is hard to do since they don't tell you.

It may come down to the weight in the carriage and they limit the number of persons to limit the weight the horses have to pull, not just the space in the carriage.
