What's the big deal with the clown pool?

We are splitting our stay at BWV and SSR in August. It will be our first time in both.

I have to ask, what is the problem with the clown pool? It seems like a lot of people make negative comments about it, such as "We enjoyed BWV despite the clown pool." I gave my kids the blue DVC book and had them choose the resorts that they wanted to visit, and BWV was their #1 choice based on the picture of the pool, actually the slide. In most of the DVC photos in the book, the slides are kind of recessed into the landscape, but it is very "obvious" in the BWV photo and looks like a LOT of fun.

So, with that said, does all the flack about the "clown pool" come from the fact that people don't like the clown or that they just don't like the pool as a whole?

My kids loved the clown pool. Can't think of anything bad to say about the pool at BWV. Maybe since it is right across from SAB, it seems lousy by comparison?

Maybe it's because the pool other than the slide is less themed than other pools (like at SSR, or VWL)?

Just guessing, because we were perfectly happy w/ BWV pool.

It's the Clown. The pool itself is very nice. Disney could have chosen from so many of their own characters including Dumbo or Goofy to create a similar effect but instead selected an icon many folk have a phobia of: the clown. Just wait 'till you see it lit up at night :scared: LOL

We won't let that clown scare us! If that's all it is, we'll be fine, lol.

Metsoskil....It looks like we will be down at the same time as you. There is another thread that I started looking for families to split an illuminations cruise. If you are interested, leave a note on that post (It might be on page two of this board now) or leave me a message.

I am 49 yrs old and I absolutely LOVE that slide!!! Tell your kids they will just have so much fun going down it. We are BCV members, and love SAB more than anything, but if I had to pick a second pool to visit, it would be that one. On one trip a few years back, we took a day off and actually spent the day over there and had the best time. You'll love it.

My 36 year old DH doesn't ever want to try BWV because of that pool, lol! He'll take a quiet pool at OKW any day!

Some people are seriously creeped out by clowns. But for many of us, it is just something funny to point out more than something serious.

Acutally, the roller coaster themed slide is pretty cool in my opinion. And clowns do not bother me. :hippie:

The slide is great. But the clown--well, read IT by Stephen King. You'll never look at a clown the same way again :)

Yeah, why not Dumbo or something? Clowns are creepy.

Yes definately the clown for us DH doesn't care for clowns - possibly Stephen King or some other childhood memory and I have heard at night it looks scarier. With DD5 not fond of the dark already I see no need to add a scary clown fear!!!!

We love BWV and yes have enjoyed the Clown slide very much.

Looks kind of creepy at night as the eyes are lit up - red I think -

As well, someone has to say it...as you exit out of the clown's mouth....some have taken that picture a little farther....

I really think those comments are made in a lighthearted manner. They are usually made by poeple who love staying at BWV.

Clowns are creepy for many people, this slide however, is really fun.

DD and I very much enjoyed the pool and slide when we stayed at BWV. We thought the whole resort was great. Its not our favorite pool but it was lots of fun.

The clown is kind of garish and seems to annoy some people. We thought it was cute. And the slide is awesome.

We're staying at BWV for the first time in November, and the kids are very excited about the pool as well. Having 2 young boys, the draw there is that the clown "throws you up"... go figure...

Yeah, why not Dumbo or something? Clowns are creepy.

I love Stephen King but his writing doesn't affect my life to the point of making me afraid of clowns. I understand though that there are adults who are afraid of clowns, for whatever reason.

I like the theme at the BWV pool. The clown fits.

People staying at the BW/BWV seem to enjoy the clown slide very much. I think the themeing of that pool is very good. I enjoy seeing the water squirting circus animals, and the kids play area is nice.

We haven't stayed there with our DGC yet because BWV doesn't have dedicated 2 bedrooms. I didn't realize that when we bought there, we really want the extra bed when they come and stay with us.

I think clowns are creepy.

The first drawings of the slide had a clown with his eyes X'ed out (dead?) with a bottle of moonshine sitting next to him :scared1:.

So, be glad, there was almost a dead drunk clown slide...

It's still our second favorite resort :thumbsup2

I think it looks fun! IMO they used the clown because it goes with the theme! I guess some people find it creepy! :confused3

Luna park at the original Boardwalk must have a clown. Luna Park in Sydney had one as well-this one seems creepy to me, BWV seems fine.
