What's the better deal? Take the 10% rebook discount, or on board credits from a travel agent.

Looking to do Disney Rome 7 day June 2024. Will be on the wish in 2 weeks and plan on pre booking for the 10% discount.

But I also know travel agents have some on board credits or discounts.

I hate letting control go and prefer to do it myself, but a deal is a deal.

You could book onboard and then transfer the reservation to a TA and benefit from both. That said, be aware that some TAs will reduce their perks for a transferred reservation, but it still could be a good deal.

You do realize you will not be booking a specific cruise while onboard? Basically, you are buying a discount - and a reduced deposit (longer cruises) when you pick your destination.

You just get a Reservation #. Then you call DCL (or a Travel Agent) to make specific cruise plans - date, ship, …

It should not be an either/ or. Other than either you control everything you can OR you let someone else deal with Disney on the phone.

I also have a hard time not managing the details.

We just had our TA make the placeholder booking. When you buy the placeholder you can give them a TA to attach to the reservation I think.

You can only assign a TA if they booked the current cruise. Otherwise it must be transferred.

This is what I do and ger full perks
"Full perks" or less will depend on the TA. DCL pays less commission on transfers, so some TAs are not able to offer full perks.

Since your TA perks are usually based on the amount you spend on your cruise, it depends a bit. But most of them don’t usually give you more than 10% of the cruise cost as your OB credit. Your best bet is to take the 10% discount and then the reduced TA perk (the TA I use gives half the OB credit if I transfer the booking to her rather than book direct). I think the last cruise I booked was going to be $300 ON credit if I booked direct on a $6000 cruise. 10% of $6000 is $600, so even just taking the 10% on that would have been better than booking direct. Once I transferred it, I would still have saved the $600, plus she would give me half the OB credit which is $150, resulting in a $750 savings as opposed to just $300 for booking direct. It may vary depending on the cruise cost and your TA benefits, but in general, just from a math perspective, you’ll do better booking onboard and transferring to your TA afterward.

We book with a TA. When we purchase a Place Holder it automatically goes under our TA's name. Then she books our next cruise using the place holder
